Now please, back to the topic at hand. Or some other topic. Just not a fighting one. Unless its about Youkilis fighting Porcello.

Well how about stating what you think.

Youk a selfish idiot for running him over?

Or did he fall under the weight of human emotion just like any other person would?

did you say "fail" Dipre? I think that requires banhammerness.

That being said, he shouldnt get this reduced, and the question is, when should he take it. Maybe, he can delay it until after the NY series

You wish.

Actually, you don't wish.

He'll have it now, and he should.

Personally I don't really think the two positions are mutually exclusive. But remember this -- Youks has had to go on the DL from HBP's too, and he doesn't want that to happen either.

irrelevant. If he needed to go on the DL after getting hit, then he wouldnt have been able to charge the mound. AND, I dont think anyone would stop throwing at him. Hell, if he charges more than once in a season, then he continues to do detriment to his club.

I was about to mention that.

Every time a guy goes after you with a 90+ MPH fastball, he's playing with your career.

One misplaced fastball on a hitter's elbow could f*** him up for life.

That's now what he meant, sir.

Read the post again.

It hit him in the back, let's not overreact.

Youkilis wears an elbow pad for a reason.

Again, easy to say from the couch.

Have you ever taken a 90 MPH pitch?

I once saw a young prospect get hit in his knee by a wild fastball from a prospect who's actually playing for an NL West team right now.

Two surgeries and 1 1/2 years of rehab later, the kid's working at a restaurant.

And if Miguel Cabrera charged Tazawa last night I'm sure Sox fans would think exactly the opposite.

That's a pretty weak argument.

Actually, probably not.

Where was all this "selfihsness" line when Coco Crisp charged Shields last year?

because Coco Crisp was'nt a vital part of our linup.

Excellent point.

you accept that risk when you step in the box

Not if they're throwing at you intentionally.

That's a weak argument coming from someone who supposedly played ball.

Do you go to the DWL a lot?

I think half the reason for this thread is that some of us don't take the Tigers seriously. This is a potential ALDS matchup, at least as strong a potential as the Rays-Sox was last year.

As things stand right now it's NYY - DET, BOS - LAA and that slotting is pretty confortable. It doesn't change if LAA takes best record since we're the wild card team. We'd have to take the division lead to really change that.

Yes, that means that once again we'd be facing the Angels in the first round of the playoffs. A situation I imagine Anaheim is heartily sick of.

The point is this is a serious opponent with serious ambitions, and with their financial commitments they've got a lot on the line. Probably why Youk and VMart got thrown at after Tazawa got their best hitter on the arm. Also, with Chicago putting on a run these games are must-win for them. I'm not sure I can blame Porcello for throwing that pitch any more than I can blame Youkilis for charging the mound after Porcello had already sent a message to Victor Martinez as well. It was just the sort of thing that was going to happen when two playoff hopefuls had the pressure on and one got away from a rookie.

I've been hit pretty much everywhere by all types of pitches. I once got hit in the earhole with a 96mph fastball from John Connolly Barnett (look him up on baseball cube). Shattered the helmet and knocked me out. I also pitched, though. So I got to even the score if anyone hit me.

whats DWL?

Dominican Winter Leagues.

But i also used to help scout Minors material with a guy who trains kids around here.

You'd be surprised how many people literally breathe baseball in this country.

Case in point.
