They probably value the outs. You move the runner up' date=' yes, but you also get one less chance (out) to drive that run home, unless the fielders completely botch it.[/quote']

I value the outs too, but with guys on 1st and 2nd a flyball anywhere is a wasted out, a groundball is a double play. With guys on 2nd and 3rd a flyball is a run, a groudball is a run (and only one out) and a base hit is probably 2 runs instead of just one. A homerun is the same either way, of course.

I'm a big fan of valuing outs, but moving two guys up and eliminating the double play seems like a way to get run.

Tampa would do it, wouldn't they? They always seem to keep the pressure on pitchers with moves like that.

Yeah they would, but it also helps having Crawford, Upton, Iwamura (I know he's hurt), etc to run with. Our only major speed guy is Ellsbury. But still, I like the idea.

Buchholz is actually supposed to be really fast. I read a report saying he was keeping up with Jacoby in a sprint. they can always bring up Anderson if they need some speed I would guess.

Lars Anderson? He's slow.

Anderson is Papi-type slow.

I agree with you, but

1: most people watch the games on TV and actually like watching baseball games (it is an activity I certainly like doing whether they win or lose)

2: most other teams are out of serious contention pretty early on. Should their fans just stop going to games and supporting their team? Just curious.

A lot of those teams run specials like 4 tickets 4 hot dogs and 4 sodas for $40.00, and they still don't draw many fans.

Brian Anderson is batting leadoff and playing CF in Pawtucket. Lanky kid. Saw him hit a leadoff HR last week. Just missed a great catch. Has some ability.

Yeah, where to start.

Starting Pitching. We need three of them.

Catcher. We need one if we decide that Vmart is going to play 1B.

Shortstop. WE ARE GOING ON 5 f***ING YEARS OF DIFFERENT SHORTSTOPS. Find one.

Outfield Depth.

I dont think so. This has been Crunchy's point since well before we came to this board. Theo and Henry like guys who stay out of the headlines. And while Youk and Pedroia have personalities' date=' they arent Pedro or Manny or Ortiz or Damon or Schilling. Those guys had personalities and were divas. Theo does not like divas.[/quote']

You do realize Theo signed Ortiz and traded for Schilling?

As for the OP, they may not have a choice. This team is old, and unfortunately? The cast is going to remain the same next year. There's really nothing they can do about Lowell, Ortiz, Drew, etc. They have a hole in LF they will probably have to overpay for. They have holes in the rotation that need filling.

This team just looks old and unathletic. They look lethargic. They look like they've given up.

Theo will earn his money from here on out.

I absolutely agree. I think Drew is a fine player, one who is vastly underappreciated by RSN.

I do think having some concerns about his defense and bat speed, being a year older, are valid.

Drew's a top 3 defensive RF.

RF in Fenway Park is BRUTAL.

Yet another thing about Drew that is underappreciated.

I agree with you, but could there not be concerns about his defense when he is a year older?

That's all I am saying.

I'd say at this point, 2010 needs to be the primary concern. This is a good team, but it's a flawed team and it needs more work than the waiver deadline can be reasonably counted on for. Also we need to get healthy, which the waiver wire can't help us with.

Roster moves that are designed to prop this team up at the expense of the 2010 team are no longer as good of an idea. The moves that should be made for the remainder of this season are those that best strengthen us beyond this season.

Can you get any more reactionary?

Sure, gimme a chance and I can post odes to futility over every ball and strike. But I don't give up on a season easily. Probably better than most people here you ought to know that when it comes to things Sox I'm often fanboyishly optimistic.

Some of this may be an immediate response to the game, but most of it is a long time coming.

SP Lackey

SS Hanley

3B Youk- (Get Gonzo)

DH Lowell-Papi Platoon.

DEPTH- The Suck we have starting now.

Problem solved. :D

that is a hell of a bill though...Lackey' date=' Gonzo, AND HanRam...thats ludacris![/quote']

Lackey only costs money.

Gonzo and HanRam in the same haul is difficult, but not impossible.

I do doubt Theo has the balls to pull off such an offseason.

He didn't have the sack to get Beckett. If it was his decision, we'd only have the one championship.

If Dojji is giving up on 2009, that's really saying something.

Dipre, the ship be sinking. You might want to take the last lifeboat.

I can see Gonzo or HanRam but i really really really REALLY doubt we get both (hopefully its HanRam and a decent corner inf. with a nice bat)

Dojji is reactionary, though. If the Sox go on a run and win like 9 out of the next 10 games, he'll be singing a much different tune.
