Theo should have seen that coming. He failed to act in case of midseason injury and player dissatisfaction/ineffectiveness. Tool of a GM he is.

 

Are you really positing his offseason wasn't a failure to this point?

Why is it a failure. The Red Sox are leading the wild card and are only a game back from the Yanks. Sure the Rays are beating them up this game but there is still like 60 games left in the season.

The red Sox are leading the Wild Card, no thanks to Penny, Baldelli, Saito, or Smoltz.

 

Rays will be 3 back after tonight. They could have been seven back.

And if the Red Sox had not made a plethera of strategical errors last night, the Rays are likely now playing just to not lose ground.

 

You can only blame the GM for so much.

Baldelli's done his job, so has RR, Penny has about done what you could expect from him, Saito has also done his job.

 

The only one who looks like a bed-s***ing is Smoltz.

 

Still, Wake's and Dice-K's injuries are not Theo's fault.

Yeah Saito, Smoltz, Penny have all struggled. Luckily the Red Sox are good enough to overcome that. Baldelli has been solid imo. Coming into this season though I don't think anyone really though that Saito and Penny would do much. Smoltz has been the biggest disappoint so far.

Yeah but I wouldn't pin that only on Theo. The whole organization balked at the pay increase. I agree we should have put the extra money in him. The Red Sox have always done that Pedro and Damon are two I can think of off the top of my head where they just didn't pay the extra.

I'd put the Teixeira fiasco on Henry, not Theo.

Yeah I don't like Saito going out there just as much as the next guy. But he is a solid relief pitcher. I think it would be hard to find a bottom pitcher in any teams pen that is below that ERA

Teixeira is the difference between 1st and 2nd right now.

 

A major success for the Yankees. A major failure for the Red Sox. It's over, but if you can't point out the biggest reason why the Red Sox aren't 6 or 7 games up in the AL East, I must say you are bordering on sedition.

Instead of signing Tex, we had to trade Materson and other prospects for Victor Martinez, who is not even close to Tex as far as impacting a lineup.

On the positive side, Penny hasn't allowed an insurmountable Rays lead, yet. The bats really need to come to life, tho.
