You might be right about getting a pitcher/hitter. But Buchholz is only leaving if Lee and Martinez are coming back. He won't be going to Toronto because they want too much besides him. I would bet Buchholz is staying unless it's a big deal that's not being reported.

My strategy would be to lump together the major league ready pitching prospects, (i.e. Buchholz and Bowden) with Anderson. After a year and a half of Halladay, the next generation of minor league pitchers will be major league ready. If the Sox get Halladay or Lee, there is no need to hold onto Buchholz, because there would be no room for him. After a trade, next year's rotation would be Beckett, Halladay/Lee, Lester, Wakefield and Dice K. There would be no spot for Buccholz, which makes him the logical prospect to be traded.

Is there any guarantee that Wakefield's back? I know he's doing well this season and all, but he will be 43 at the start of next year. That's old for any kind of pitcher.

Not saying he will or won't hang it up, but I don't like to bank on 43 year olds returning for future seasons.

I wish they would part ways with Wakefield, but I don't see that happening after is only All Star season.

I hope the kid makes a good showing and keeps his trade value high.

THis start has less than zero impact on his trade value.

Depending on the I.Q. of the front office' date=' could be Buchholz's last appearance in Boston.[/quote']

What does this mean?

What does this mean?

This is Clay's last start before the deadline. If the front office is stupid, this could possibly be Clay's last start with the Sox (i.e. trading Buchholz would be retarded, unless for Halladay).

So trading Buchholz for Adrian Gonzalez is retarded? Trading Buchholz for Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez is retarded?

Hmm. Interesting.

I'll never understand the hate for Wakefield. :dunno:

This.

Some people value their own comfort while watching a Sox game above how well Wakefield performs.

More unnecessary than anything.

Trading Buchholz for Cliff Lee and Victor Martinez is retarded?

Extremely.

I know, it doesn't quite fall in line with the whole 'PANIK PANIK PANIK FUK THE FUTURE WIN NOWWWWWW' mentality.

If you always focus in the future and forget to win now, then the winning future will never come.

One of the most important aspects of a farm system is its use in acquiring premium, proven talent.

Except we can win now, with this team. When you have a team that's perfectly capable of winning it all as constructed, and you still insist on trading ace prospects for less-than-monumental upgrades for the sake of going for the jugular, that's when you f*** up.

Pitching wins and I don't think they have enough to win this season.

Its a fairly widespread belief that Wakefield was DL'ed at least in part to get Buchholz some time in the majors. I'm not at all concerned about him.

In the playoffs, you need 4 starters. Beckett and Lester are Beckett and Lester, Penny's performing well, and we'll have Wakefield back unless something completely insane happens.

Im not comfortable with Wake making playoff starts but I never understood the hate for him either, he is easily a good #5 starter who eats innings, occaisionally he just cant get the knuckler down and gets blown up for a game but when you have a guy who can fill a hole in the weak part of your rotation and is a threat to pitch 8 innings of good pitching, Wake is more valuable than alot of ppl realize.

More unnecessary than anything.

How is trading a pitching prospect for a middle of the order bat unnecessary?

Gonzalez just turned 27, why would you think that would hinder the team's future?

Suppose they work out a deal before the game tonight involving Buchholz. Who starts in his place?

Theo should just pretend to take a 6-hour s*** or find some other way to keep away from the phone but maintain Toronto's interest and attention. That way, we can have him start tonight, and then trade him.

In all seriousness, I doubt tonight's performance has any impact at all on his trade value. I would just like him to be able to start.

I love what Wake has done for the Sox' date=' but I can't stand watching him pitch.[/quote']

When he gets rocked (which hasn't happened much this season) it can be tough but that's with any pitcher. I love when he makes batters look goofy and I love how fast he works.
