I never saw betting on other teams to be on the same level as PED use so if those guys are allowed to be on the ballot, then so should Rose IMO

I doubt he could still play.

lol you cant be serious?

I think Rose has paid for his crime, even if he refuses to admit he ever did it, if Sosa, Bonds, and McGuire can be even considered then Rose deserves to as well...

He actually bet on his own team, which is a common misconception. It just was written so loosely in the rulebook.

I personally don't really care about this' date=' but this kind of move would really take the teeth out of future sanctions/bans. For that reason, I think the ban should be upheld.[/quote']

I think that it set a good example, if say, Pujols was thinking of breaking that or a rule of similar seriousness it would definitely make him think twice if he knew he would be immediatly kicked out and go throughwhat Rose is he'd definitely think twice...

Wut?

If they're gonna cheat, they're gonna cheat, lifting the ban on Rose won't help, it'll further encourage cheating seeing how the rules are so flexible.

I'm on the fence here. Rose was involved with betting on games that he was participating in either as a player or a manager. This happenned (I believe) while baseball had a clearly difined policy prohibiting such activities. Bond, Sosa, McGuire, and others, juiced at a time when a policy was either loosly defined or non-existant.

I'm not so sure any of them belong in the hall. But if one does (based on performance), than they all should be considered. If any of them make it, their plaque should also include mention of their "cheating".

Also, in my view, Rose, while I consider him a flawed cantidate, was a much better player that added much to the game.

Flexible?!? he has been banned the majority of his life, he hasnt played baseball again since!...I dont think it will tell any player that they can get away with cheating he still served a hell of a sentence.

Frankly, even if he's reinstated now, the decades of exile is pretty stiff punishment. I could see "letting him off for time served" at this point.

He bet on his OWN team, what the hell is the problem? If anything, it gave him MORE drive to win games, because his money was on the line. Yes, he broke a rule, but banning him and keeping him out of the Hall?

I think all along they planned on admitting him into the hall after he passed away but its just kind of a ridiculous punishment...

If Rose is reinstated and elected into the hall then i think two things should happen. 1) reinstate Joe Jackson. 2) On their plaques in Cooperstown, right around where it lists the teams the players played for and when they played there they should also note their bans, and the duration listing when they were banned and when they were reinstated.

Better than an asterisk, don't you think?

I can agree to that Cooperstown is a place of baseball history, and like it or not their bans are a big and fairly important part of baseball history.

so betting FOR your team is the same as throwing the WS?
