effective pitchers tend to get my respect, not guys who lose the ability to get people out as soon as hitters get used to him trying to kick his 3rd baseman in the face every time he delivers a pitch

"Pipeline spoiler alert"

Trade Bay for a couple prospects.

Package them up with Buchholz, Bowden, Hadagone, Anderson, Kalish

to

Florida for Johnson and Hanley.

Problems solved;)

I wonder how much better our teams would have been in 2006-2008 if we'd still had Bronson.

Not that hard to figure out in each of those years who Bronson would have replaced in the rotation. (2006 -- Clement, 2007 -- Tavarez, 2008 -- Schilling)

Bronson SUCKS , our team would have NOT been better

Johnson is a good one as well. He's up for a big contract soon, so Miami might want to move him.

If the Sox are going to move any of their premium young pitching talent, it makes sense to move them for premium established pitching. That way, they don't weaken their pitching--hopefully strengthen it. The biggest impact guy is still Halladay, and they could move a couple of their young pitchers for him without weakening their pitching. Giving up their pitching for a position player is more risky.

They must know that Beckett, Halladay and Lester would make them the team to beat--no matter who they give up in terms of young pitching.

WTF, what good are you if ALL you can do is eat innings? would you rather have a guy throw 240 IP with a 6 ERA or a guy with 200 IP with a 3 ERA ?

I'd be more inclined to overpay for Johnson the Halladay. Johnson is coming into his prime. He might be further along then when the team acquired Beckett. Johnson you have I think for at least 3+ seasons with no extension. That's someone that is worth putting Buchholz in a deal for.

I know Johnson and Hanley are the faces there for the Marlins. But Buchholz, Bowden, Anderson, OF prospect + other prospects from a trade of Bay(you would think he would get something decent) and whomever else, is a hell of a package to fill out your ball club for some time to come. And all would be ready to debut for the opening of the stadium possibly. Add that to Florida's already strong young core and they could be legit for a long time.

This is all speculation though. Just kicking around names outside of Doc and V-Mart.

Not if you use such an extreme example, no. But which is more valuable, 230 IP's at 4.2-4.5 ERA into which are mixed 15 wins and several quality starts, or 175 innings 5 and out, even given a 3 ERA?

All I'm seeing in this argument is a bunch of "if's and buts". Fact is no one knows what Bronson would have done if he had stayed with Sox. You can't assume he would have put up the same numbers he has since he left. You also can't assume if he would have been better or worse.

This argument was finally buried. And someone went grave digging and resurrected it. Can we please toss the dirt back over this dead horse?

It has got to be the #1 most annoying topic to ever be brought up here.

I wouldn't consider 230 IP with a 4.2 ERA a innings eather , I would consider that a SOLID # 3 starter

Bronson is getting lit up in the NL , no way he puts up a ERA below 5 in the AL east

You don't think he'd be better than a 7.50 ERA?

weather you have a 7.50 ERA or 6 ERA you still suck , you're not going to win anymore ballgames either way

Hey if were getting a pitcher im thinkin they need to be a guy that gets a 4ERA with an avg of 6.5 innings a game atleast, im not trading s*** for another s***** pitcher...

Not RYAN GARKO!!!!

Haha sorry about that. If that's all SF has up their sleeve I'd be kind of surprised. I was expecting Nick Johnson.

EDIT: I guess I worded that wrong. I am surprised, since they definitely won't get Johnson now.

The only prospects we have that I wouldn't move in a Lee package are Kelly and Bard. kelly because I don't think it'd be maximizing his value to deal him now, Bard because I think he's a stud and I want him setting up in Boston for years.

Buchholz, Bowden, Masterson, Anderson, Exposito, for Martinez, Lee. It's a heck of a lot of MLB-ready pitching to deal, but if it sets us up for a ring, it's worth it. And we still have guys like Reddick, Rizzo, Federowicz, Bard, and Tazawa all pretty close.
