According to Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse, the Mariners have designated outfielder Wladimir Balentien for assignment. He's bumped to make room for Michael Saunders.

Not huge news. But a year or two ago this kid was a big time prospect. With a big bat and power potential. He has since fizzled and the Mariners don't have room for him.

I know he's going to catch on somewhere. He has the upside. Think the Sox should get him and stick him in AAA and see if they can rejuvenate his bat?

Petco AL version certainly didn't help.

Balentien traded to Reds

Rotoworld:

Ed Price of AOL Fanhouse reports that the Reds have acquired outfielder Wladimir Balentien from the Mariners in exchange for RHP Robert Manuel.

The Cincinnati outfield is somewhat depleted at the moment, so there's no harm in taking a shot on Balentien despite some very evident flaws in his approach at the plate. The 26-year-old Manuel had a 2.70 ERA in 46 2/3 innings at Triple-A this season and has pitched 4 1/3 scoreless innings for the Reds this month. He could be a useful asset in the Seattle bullpen.
