This seems to be a prevalent attitude. I can't say I agree with it. While it is true that if no one is getting on base in front of you, your run production will obviously suffer, it is simultaneously true that some guys hit better with runners on or runners in scoring position than others. Some guys get the job done. Some guys don't.

 

Milton Bradley has 22 RBIs. He's hitting .212 with RISP. That's not the team's fault.

 

Batters who bat in the same lineup as guys who have OBP's over .400 will have more chances to drive those runners in, rather than the batter who does not.

You do realize that everyone in baseball is laughing at the Pirates for basically giving Laroche away for nothing (2 nothing prospects). They are calling the Pirates a "Clearance sale, everything must go!".

The fact you call the prospects "average" shows you know nothing about them. There two full time minor leaguers that would have trouble breaking into the big leagues for the Nationals. but go ahead and celebrate.

Just in case anyone was wondering. Laroche is about 5 points behind the last spot for a "B" type status FA. Not that I would expect them to offer arb anyways.

the pirates have always taken quantity over quality with the hopes that one of the multitude of players steps forward and outplays his projection. We see how that has done for them.

 

Of all their deals, the only one that was a win for them was the deal with NYY, the one that everyone killed at the time.

 

Ohlendorf has been a good starter for them with an ERA in the 4.5 range and a WHIP in the 1.3 range. Tabata is starting to hit for average again and McCutchen is right on the verge of being in the rotation or pen for Pittsburgh. Meanmwhile, Nady is out for the yr and Marte is just about to come back after an almost 3 month layoff
