He's a great hitter, known to be a "character guy" and would open up a roster spot by catching wake and playing first.

That being said, Overbay is a decent option.

I'm not so sure that Victor Martinez could catch Wakefied.

I see no reason why any ML catcher would not be bale to catch Wake. It's just a matter of practice and repetition.

I just don't want to see another Flaherty or Bard fiasco.

Right, Kot's out of options, and Tek doesn't handle Wakefield, so anything we do to bring in another catcher involves getting rid of one guy we know can do the job in order to bring in a guy we don't know can do it.

And if we take Kotsay off the roster instead, we weaken our outfield depth. If Baldelli gets hurt I guarantee we hear squalling about carrying three catchers.

Victor Martinez is not the right move at this time.

Texiera again TK? Really? Seriously? Who gives a crap about anything A-Rod says? It's a matter of opinion as to whether he is right or wrong. Can he predict the future now?

When the All-Star game was in Detroit a few years ago, A-Rod said that he thought the A.S. game was good for the state of Detroit.

Now maybe if he had said something like, "if the Red Sox had signed me in 2004, they wouldn't have won the World Series in 2004 and 2007" there would be some credibility to that.

Only because the problems with this team that presented Worst Case Scenario for the Sox last offseason are beginning to rear their ugly head.

Oh, ok. So, just so I'm clear, the Tex thing will come up whenever we are struggling and the NYY are doing well? Got it. As long as you know, IT DOESN'T CHANGE ANYTHING.

Were you watching in 2004 when it seemed our season was over early/mid September?

Just wondering....:D

While I also think it would have been nice to have Tex, you're right. Saying I wish we had Tex won't change anything. It's like saying, if only the Yankees had split the season series so far, they'd be 8 games up.

The Yankees always start like s*** and then get hot and catch up. They do it every year. I don't know why some are freaking out. Who didn't see this coming? The fact that it took them 3 weeks into July to catch up is something in itself.

While in Boston Beckett, Lester, Ortiz, and Dice-K all s*** the bed to start the year. Lowell has been running and fielding with an anchor tide to his waste. Lowrie has 20 something AB's because of injury. And Bay has hit .211 since May.

We should all be happy the team is in contention. And not a few games back really:D

The same early September when the Sox were red hot?

Obviously A-Rod isn't trying to be exact when he says the Red Sox would have a ten game lead. However, like Kilo is saying, if they had him they would certainly be better than they are now. But, like you're saying, it's a moot point.

I wonder if there's any jealousy on A-Rod's part that he almost could been been on the Red Sox but he wasn't, and they went on to win 2 World Series. Or perhaps a little resentment from the blond wigs and steroids chants he's gotten at Fenway over the year.

A-Rod badly wanted to come to the Red Sox. It's not like he made the decision not to come. It just didn't work out. If he made the decision not to come, I could see him regretting it, but he didn't.

I didn't mean that he regrets anything, because there's nothing he could do differently. But I think he resents the fact that it never worked out with him and the Red Sox, and they went on to win 2 World Series without him. I think he wanted to be "the guy" to break the curse.

1. Since when does something a moron like Alex Rodriguez says mean anything substantial, especially when he's pumping up a teammate?

He might have something useful to add if the topic is which ass cheek gets the needle.

I am surprised there is even a debate that Tex is making a huge difference between standing. I mean you can argue if Tex deal will be good in long term - this year he is making all the difference.

oh really? so there's factual proof that "there'd be no race" if Tex was a Red Sox? The Yankees would have done NOTHING to counteract the move?

youre better than this, Kilo

I think the yankee brass was ok with Swisher at 1b and Nady in RF.

They obviously weren't "too" happy with them, otherwise they wouldn't have gone out and gotten another player. Who knows what they would have done if they lost out on Tex, they had hundreds of millions of dollars just burning a hole in their pocket.

Just when things happen like:

a. The offense goes into a prolonged slump.

b. One of our corner infielders is gimpy and or goes on a DL stint

c. The Yankees/Rays shave multiple games off our lead in a very short time frame.

I get your point about 2004 but changes were made. Do you really think the Sox are going to platoon Mike Lowell the rest of the year with a bat they trade for?

Not getting Teixeira was a mistake and it looks like it will bite the Sox in the ass for this year and the next few.

We should be happy we have a team toiling in mediocrity?

Thankfully the Rays scuffled in April or we could be 4-5 games out of the WC.

No that's not what I was getting at really. It was more "glass half full".

Yes it sucks the team is going through a prolonged stretch of mediocrity. But given all that, and all the thing s I mentioned before, the team is still contending for the division and the playoffs. Yes some changes need to be made. A lot of teams might have folded if all that had happened to them. What other team could still be in or close to 1st place after basically starting the first month or two without there 2 top SP doing anything. And the DH doing his best Alex Cora impression? Take CC and AJ away from the Yanks for the same period of time(hypothetical of course) and I doubt there close to the top of the division.

Just saying it could be worse.

Every team goes through a stretch exactly like this one every year. I'm not worried about the performance on the field per se, that will turn around. More concerned about putting the team in the best position to stay competitive down the stretch than I am about kickstarting the offense now.

Go shove rotten fish in a horses mouth and proceed to lick it's big ol flappy horse lips. About the closest you could hope for in realism I would imagine.

Blasphemy.

Although it has more use than the phrase "I did not have sexual relations with that woman" near the end of Clinton's administration, Maddona's pussy must be delicious, and if that filthy douchebag A-Rod hadn't hit it with his steroid-shrunk dick, i'd definitely hit it as well.
