If you were responding to me I was being super sarcastic if you didn't detect it.

Yeah, I know you were. I wasn't responding to anyone, just making a colloquial statement.

Nobody but thats the feeling I'm getting from some of the talk in here tonight.

I realize some is reactionary but geez.

Even from the reactionary posts, I still don't get the vibe that anyone thinks this season is over. I'm being realistic. This team needs a bat or a pitcher ... just SOMETHING. If they get Halladay, I'll be happy. If they decide to address the lineup, I'll be happy. We can live with our lineup as is if we add Halladay, and we can live with our rotation as is if we add a bat. Whatever Theo decides, he has to do something.

The vibe I'm getting is that the Red Sox as currently constructed are not a better team than the Yankees as currently constructed, and that in order to be sure that we stay competitive, we need to make a move at the deadline. I don't think that's unreasonable, and I certainly don't think that's the same as saying the season is over.

You have to wonder if the Red Sox have their 12 best pitchers on the roster. They have at least two guys in Pawtucket who are probably better right now than Penny or Smoltz. In fairness to Smoltz, I think they are asking too much of him to go more than 5 innings right now. The guy is off arm surgery, and he's 42.

Maybe he should be in the bullpen.

Their policy of not working guys into the rotation from the bullpen is hurting them right now.

Adrien Gonzalez is an excellent hitter' date=' our first baseman, third baseman and DH are hitting now. The LF is hitting .250 and the RF is hitting .240. Our SS are sub-standard offensively and our CF has little pop. I don't see how Adrien Gonzalez helps us.[/quote']

Because Adrian Gonzales is a middle of the order bat, who would form an awesome core along with Bay,Youk and Papi.

(Without the pinstriped glasses the Rays are as close the Yankees in the standings as they are the Red Sox).

after tonight's game they will be. But I am talking about how Theo will be thinking. He doesnt care if the sox win the ALE. He has said as much. The playoffs are a crapshoot, all you need to do is get in. Right now, the yankees and sox are tied at the top of the ALE with the other slotted into the WC slot. The Rays are the team to keep an eye on.

Alright, game's not over yet. We still have the heart of our order against the Rangers' back up closer.

A core is typically something you build upon. I wouldnt put Bay in there because he could be gone in less than 4 months

Other than calling up Buchholz, trading for Halladay, or adding a depth at IF, I don't see how we can really improve this team. We have a really good team and the weak points can't really be upgraded (at least it seems). Will IF depth really be the difference?

So who were you responding to with the "season is over" comment?

I don't believe I quoted anyone with the comment, sweetie.

If they call up Buchholz, he's here for the rest of the season.

I agree, we are built for the playoffs so i'll take the wild card. I'm not scared of the Yankees at all if we go head to head with them. I hope we get a bat though. I said it before but I would love to get Carlos Lee.

Is Youk gonna sit for Gonzalez or is Ortiz going to sit. Neither of those guys is the problem. Where would you play Adrien Gonzalez to get him enough ABs to make it worth acquiring him?

Gonzalez will not be traded. People, ADRIAN GONZALEZ IS NOT GOING ANYWHERE!!!!!!!

Hes signed at cheap (3 MILLION DOLLARS) money through 2010 with a CLUB option in 2011 and no buyout. He is not going anywhere. Stop the nonsense.

LOL. JD Drew is SOOOO Awesome that Tito pinch hits Rocco Baldelli in the 9th inning of a 3-run deficit, because there is a LEFTY on the mound. $14 million just doesn't buy what it used to.

My bad, didn't realize I wasn't allowed to make a comment in the game thread that wasn't a direct response to someone.

BTW, do you realize how ridiculous you're getting?

Bet if it was up to you we'd still have Trot under contract.

so much for that vaunted sox middle of the order facing the backup closer. Tied in the east again. Gonna be tough tomorrow. The sox send Beckett to the hill while we send Mitre out there. This tie might be short lived.

So let me get this right.

No one said the season was over.

You made the comment that people were saying the season was over.

But no one was saying the season was over.

And I'm the ridiculous one.

OK.
