I obviously would be happier if we were playing better AKA winning. I don't think going all this trade everyone OH NO DA YANKEEEZ talk is rational though.

We need to make a trade. I don't give a f*** if it's for Halladay or for Holliday (c wut i did thar), but we need something. What isn't rational is suggesting that everything is going to be okay.

WTF is wrong with JD Drew. Is he going to be a $14 million .240 hitter?

Careful a700. Drew is the binky for many members here tonight.:D

Well, now that it has taken the Yankees all of 4 games to erase the 3-game lead we had going into the all-star break, I guess we should just sit idly and wait for them to beat themselves. That'll work.

If this team stays constructed this way, a 3rd place finish is in our sights. And that, my friend, is not good enough.

For what it's worth, I'm not saying the offense doesn't need to be addressed, but I'm getting annoyed watching more than one 5th starter in our rotation.

Do i remember right? Didn't they tie us up right before the Angels series? It's gonna be back and forth with some TB Rays thrown in thats just life in the AL east.

So no. That's what I thought.

Feel free to make fun of other posters who think the Yankees will regress from their current .700+ pace though. I guess it's good for your internet cred.

Do me a favor, take a peek at the Sox's remaining schedule and tell me if you think they can win 60% of their games from here on out.

They've lost series to Seattle and Toronto the past two weeks. Not getting it done.

I made a meatball observation in the 5th' date=' maybe the 4th. He was fortunate to make it as far as he did. He was leaving them up earlier.[/quote']

Yeah, this was the worst Smoltz has looked in any of his starts. His velocity wasn't there and he couldn't locate his breaking stuff. But he was locating, as he always does when he's healthy.

Can't defend him right now, he looks awful, but to be fair the whole team looks awful outside of Pedey.

Alright' date=' enough bull, let's be real. Do you, or do you not expect the Yankees to regress from their current 16-5 pace?[/quote']

thats a stupid post, but par for the course I guess. Of course, the yankees are not going to play .761 baseball. But they are playing .656 baseball over the last 66 games. So it isnt like they are gonna fall off the planet here. The sox, OTOH, have lost a 5 game lead in that time. Not too shabby, though, when you consider they are playing .597 ball since May 7th. But the writing is on the wall here.

Yeah, except this time they're fully rested and aren't facing their damn kryptonite right after they tie us.

And they're also on a f***ing roll. They'll regress, but not enough for me to think that we can keep up. I do expect the Yankees to at least win 58-60% of their remaining games. I also feel that the Rays significantly underperformed in the first half, and will be right on our ass come mid-August if not in a week with the way things are going recently.

does this sound a bit contradictory?

You're right, the Yankees will continue to play .700 baseball and we'll continue to play .333 baseball based on two series.

The problem I have with you saying this stuff, is that you don't say any of it when the Red Sox are doing well. But when they lose a game you claim like you were right all along. I don't have a problem with criticizing the team, but you might be the most reactionary poster on the site.

Humor me, how is that contradictory? I never said he had his normal stuff all night.

Exactly. Things are never as bad as they seem when they are at their worst, and things are never as good as they seem when they are at their best.

Or something like that.

Should we assume that the Sox will just play like s*** for the rest of the season?

In 2006, many were saying that everything was going to be okay and that we would be fine when our guys returned from injury. The FO did nothing although the weaknesses were clear. This situation is not as bad as 2006. This team has more depth, but it needs help. Drew is hitting terribly. Kotsay adds nothing with the bat. Baldelli is unreliable and can't play more than twice a week. We have no sticks coming off the bench, except Baldelli twice a week at most. Everyone else blows chunks on the bench. We can't afford to rest any regulars, because it will wreck the offensive output.

Ahhh no.

A deal will require at least Bucholz AND Bowden with a relieving prospect like Masterson or Bard AND including an inf. prospect AND probably another young proven arm like DelCarmen.

They want the farm. They want at least 4 players, maybe 5.

Even still. At the end of this night, barring a comeback (and if that happens, praise Jesus), we will be tied for first place. I see the Yankees winning 58-60% of their remaining games. I see the Red Sox winning around 55-56%. If a move is made, that will change.

I'm not making any groundbreaking statements here. We need to make a move, and then I will feel better about our chances. Whether it is Halladay or a bat, the team will be good enough to give me confidence in an AL East title this year. I don't have that confidence right now, and haven't for awhile ever since Lowell went down.

Here's the thing. I haven't been around the past two weekends when they won 3 straight against the Royals or this past weekend against the Jays.

It's a gamethread. This is the place for reactionary posts. I don't need to be called out every time I say something remotely negative about the Sox.

Please give me one positive thing to take out of this game and I won't be negative for the rest of the night.

You know what else evens out? 0-8 vs the sox. After tonight, the yankees and the sox should be tied. If we had even gone 4-4 vs you guys, we'd be 8 games up

He was locating most of his pitches. He abandoned his breaking ball once he couldn't get it over. He was throwing more than 2/3rds of his pitches for strikes, that's a fact.

And honestly, who are you to talk about contradictory statements? You said his shoulder is hanging on by a thread and now you're denying it.

No. We can foresee the Sox being overtaken by New york and Tampa though.

If the Mets package is any indication, they want 2 high profile, MLB ready prospects with 2 high ceiling, further down the road players with them. That deal with the Mets would have effectively raided them of any players in the top 200-300 in the game.

Yeah, and if we hadn't lost a game this season, we'd be a s*** ton of games up on the Yankess. Your point....
