If he's a good pitcher (like Schill and RJ were)' date=' chances are he'll be good in the playoff. I don't see lack of playoff experiences as a negative.[/quote']

You mean like Lincecum was is that high pressured all star game?

I'm glad you're coming to your senses. If we sign Halladay, who would be the odd man out? Usually only 3 starters get the playoff starts. Smoltz? The best active playoff starter of the last 20 years?

And having watched the team play the last month, I think it's pretty obvious that our need is hitting, not pitching.

It depends on the format. The Red Sox could be in a position where they would need to use four starters, unless they were willing to throw someone on short rest. Before last years division series, the Red Sox of recent years always went with a four man playoff rotation.

And Smoltz is such a question mark, regardless of his postseason success. I think most Red Sox fans would be thrilled to substitute Halladay for him.

Well, let's just agree to disagree.

I'm just extremely surprised at your deep want for this guy.

Our pitching staff is fine as well as deep.

I'm all for getting another bat or a SS.

If he stays where he is, that would be fine with me, but if the Yankees were to scoop him up that would shift the balance of power to the Yankees without a doubt. Pitching wins and the Sox have plenty of offense. If Halladay goes to the National League, it wouldn't bother me, but it would bother me if the Yanks got him. I think the FO is on top of this enough that they will not let this happen and are prepared to top a Yankee offer. The Sox don't need Halladay, but they can't afford to let the Yankees get him. Also, this whole discussion about Halladay stems from my belief that Penny will not be traded unless the Sox get Halladay. I am convinced about that. Penny isn't going anywhere to make room for Buchholz.

Nope. From what I hear, he's the new pitcher to build your team around. Maybe in the NL. I was expecting to be dazzled. But I wasn't.

You should be praying your team gets Halladay to somewhat improve your chances.

Also, I can't think of anyone who would want to substitute Smoltz for Lester or Beckett at this point.

Do you honestly think he'll go to an AL East team?

Well, I mean, the Yankees certainly have their problems, but I still think they're a top three team in baseball (Red Sox, Dodgers, Yankees). You're talking about them as if they're mediocre.

EDIT: And as for the Lincecum part, you're going to make your judgment based on what you saw from him over two innings in an ASG?

Who is saying that if the Red Sox don't get Halladay, he will go to the Yankees? I simply said that I'd rather not have to give away Buchholz and the farm to get a 32 year old Halladay. If the Yankees get serious, then the Sox might not have a choice but give up the farm for him, but that is a worst (or best, how ever you look at it) case scenario. This isn't a discussion of Yankees vs Red Sox.

Oh, and believe me, the Jays WON'T trade Halladay to the Yankees or Sox unless we give them the entire farm.

I think you are probably right.
