According to a source familiar with the situation, the Red Sox have designated Julio Lugo for assignment. The Red Sox will have 10 days to assign Lugo's contract to another major or minor league club, whether it be via trade or through waivers. Lugo is finishing the third of a four-year deal which pays him $10 million per season. Lugo is hitting .284 in 37 games with the Red Sox this season.

We all rag on the guy. Sometimes justifiably so. Still, I don't think he really did anything wrong while with the Sox. Other than not preforming at a level commensurate with his salary. I believe he tried to play well. He just was not that good anymore. He played decent to very good ball while with the Devil Rays. But started really sucking in L.A..

 

I have to question why the Sox had such a raging boner for the guy. 4/36? What were they thinking?

Theo wanted Lugo badly. Maybe thought Lugo could turn things around for himself in Boston.

He was good defensively for those few months but for the most part I agree.

I like the all star game, but it is one day out of 4 that don't do much for me either. I know these guys need a break, but damn I've been bored without the promise of a 3-4 hour Sox game to pay attention to. That's wy I can't get as excited about sports that don't play every day.

 

I think football teams should play 3-4 times a week and have 200-man rosters. That would lead to discussions like "Brady is taking the snap today against the Dolphins' 4th QB, Joey Harrington".

Awesome to see Lowell back in the lineup. Hopefully he hits and fields like Lowell, instead of a former shell of himself. He really helps to fill out our lineup. Now we have a .300 hitter with 40 stolen bases hitting 8th instead of a .257 hitter with little patience or pop.

Here I have the MLB extra innings package. I know the game isn't on Fox, but we don't get any games on Saturdays except for the 4pm Fox game and then any night game. All 1pm games aren't shown because of Fox, they are blocked out.

 

SO, the only time I get to see the Sox on Saturdays is if they play on Fox at 4pm or after 7pm.

 

That's what I meant. Sorry for not keeping score at home.
