Manny Acta has been fired as manager of the Washington Nationals, he told ESPNdeportes.com's Enrique Rojas on Sunday.

The Nationals were blanked by the Houston Astros on Sunday 5-0 to go into the All-Star break with the worst record in the league at 26-61.

"I thank the Nationals for giving me this opportunity and I'm sorry that things didn't work out as expected. It's normal for the manager to pay the price when the team is not doing well," Acta said.

Although not confirmed, Jim Riggleman is the leading candidate to take over as manager for the remainder of the season.

In three seasons at the Washington helm, Acta posted a 158-252 record. His best season came in his first when the Nats finished 73-89, but they slid to 59-102 last year. Washington was on pace to win only 48 games this season.

Before getting the Nationals job, Acta was the third base coach for the New York Mets.

Well deserved. The team isn't that bad on paper.

That team is that bad on paper. THey have one starter and no relievers, and only 3 or 4 above average hitters (depending on where you rate Elijah Dukes).

Not only that, their fielding is also way below average except for Johnsonn and Zimmerman.

An OF of Dunn at LF (no explanation required), Dukes in center (He's a RF, not really enough range for CF), and an assortment of FAIL in right, i fail to see how this team is much better than 48 wins.

Their infield is pretty miserable too. Their only half decent defender around the horn is Zimmerman. Guzman is decent but error prone at short, they have a fail salad at second, and Johnson plays like an old man with a bad leg at first base.

Lol Zimmerman is a GG 3B, but other than that, you're dead on.

I did say Zimmerman was a decent defender but whatever. Point is, this is a bad, bad baseball team.

I took that squad over in one of those computer simulation leagues, and I had to use every cheap unrealistic trick in the league to survive.

Worse than the 2006 Royals who sent "All Star" Mark Redman to the game because they didn't have a single credible player on their roster?

A ballclub as a whole is usually better than the sum of its parts.

The Royals weren't better than anyone.

2006 Royals >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 2009 Nationals
