Halladay

Marcum

Romero

McGowan

In pretty much any division except the AL East, that scares me a little. They have some hitters, too.

They have zero chance. Zero

That's of course dependent on McGowan and Marcum recovering 100% for their injuries next year.

You mean from the major surgeries that could have them both throwing high '80's or on rehab assignments for most, if not all of next year?

My point exactly.

I've heard talk of McGowan having to retire

Oh wow.

Can you find a link?

I never heard any mention of it being that bad.

I bring this up again, something I posted last night. What the f*** was he thinking? Overplayed his hand? He may have just unofficially lost his job. What a moron, now hes stuck with a pitcher who is prob pissed off. He could have been pitching for a world series contender, now hes just wasting innings.

If I am Halladay, I go out with a fluke injury, tell JP to f*** himself and demand a trade in the offseason, where JP will get nothing compared to the offers he was getting over the past couple weeks. What a retard.

Totally agree. Where are they going to be next year? The answer is simple. . .4th place. He is insane if he thinks they can compete next year. I feel bad for poor Roy.

It's gonna be fun to watch him pay for his bed-s***ing job with Halladay.

The Red Sox made one last-ditch offer on Halladay - a bid that included Buchholz and Michael Bowden, as well as Masterson and Hagadone. That offer was said to be the best Toronto ever got for its ace but it still was not good enough, especially for the division rivals.

JP should be fired, that's quite the haul and he let it go.

This is an excerpt from a CanWest News Service article...

The outlook on starter Dustin McGowan is not so bright, although Jays assistant GM Alex Anthopoulos denied a Toronto radio host’s suggestion that McGowan’s career may be over.

At the end of a Thursday interview on Fan 590, host Bob McCown asked Anthopoulos to respond to speculation that “we may never see (McGowan) again.”

“I don’t know that we’re prepared to say that he’s never going to come back,” Anthopoulos replied. “I think we’re just going to continue to be hopeful, continue to work with him, and hopefully we’ll have more information at the end of the year.”

Elaborating Friday, Anthopoulos said McGowan, a hard-throwing right-hander who underwent shoulder surgery last July 31, definitely will not pitch this year.

Anthopoulos acknowledged that the Jays made overly optimistic suggestions that McGowan might return by May. But he said each time McGowan resumed throwing, he has felt “soreness or tightness” shortly thereafter and has been shut down.

“No one has a crystal ball to know exactly when he’s going to come back and what his velocity will be,” Anthopoulos said.

He said he is hopeful McGowan will be ready for spring training.

Could McGowan be done? “No one’s saying that,” Anthopoulos replied.

“Any type of soreness or tightness that he has along the way, were going to be conservative. We’re not going to rush him. He’s very valuable. He’s a big part of our team. We’re going to be as patient as we can and do the right thing by him.”

What a moron. I know trading your franchise guy to your rivals is dicey. But you have to make your ball club better. There is no way in hell he gets a better off then that. As soon as the TDL ended Halladay lost 25-30% of his value IMO.

CHICAGO — According to a source familiar with the situation, the Red Sox are one of the teams Toronto pitcher Roy Halladay has identified as a club he would accept a trade to. Halladay has a no-trade clause in his current deal, which will pay him $15.75 million in 2010.

Indications from another major league source suggest that the Blue Jays are currently intent on keeping Halladay, although the 32-year-old figures to continue to be a topic of trade talk throughout the offseason. The Red Sox were one of the teams to make an attempt at acquiring the Toronto ace at last season’s trade deadline.

Halladay finished ‘09 at 17-10 with a 2.79 ERA, having led the league in complete games (9) for the third straight season.

I just dont see a Halladay to Boston deal. I dont see it. And if it happens' date=' I highly doubt he signs with one yr left on his contract.[/quote']

And even if he does sign with one year left on his contract, I just see him breaking his arm or his leg. I just see it. And if not his arm or leg then probably his neck. I just don't see this working out well for this team at all.

All that said, I bet you didn't see the Sox getting Curt Schilling either, did you?

Halladay feels like a perfect fit for Boston. Theo has already said that he may be looking at making one last strong run with the current core of guys and then moving on to the younger core (the group that doesn't include Ortiz or Lowell and maybe not Beckett). Adding Halladay for one season and then having his salary off the books (or resigning him) would keep all of those options open and probably wouldn't cost the farm.

There may not be much of a younger core to go with if they make a deal for Halladay

Based upon prioerities, I'd rather the Sox deal their prospects for Adrian Gonzalez, but if we can't get him, trading for another starter is better than doing nothing. Would rather trade for Felix, but if we can pry Roy away and get him to sign an extension, trade for him.

I don't see Halladay landing on any AL East team, the Jays stated in the past the cost would be higher to be dealt onto another them in their division, and since they wouldn't accept the Phillies deal, you can only imagine how much they would be asking from the Sox or Yankees.

Unless Halladay is traded he won't even have a chance to be in the playoffs, and the Red Sox have some weaknesses to fix this offseason to they plan on taking out the Yankees / Angels in the playoffs next year.

LOL, I'm not worried about the Angels. That was cute what they did this year in the ALDS, but it was basically their biggest accomplishment they'll have for awhile. Especially if they lose Lackey.

3:05pm: Not so fast, says John Tomase of The Boston Herald. He writes that a team source "made it clear today the Red Sox recognize that swinging any deal for Halladay will likely be a lengthy process." The Winter Meetings are just 11 days away.

Meanwhile, both Ken Rosenthal of FoxSports.com and Gordon Edes of ESPN Boston put their two cents in about a potential Halladay-to-Boston deal.

8:17am: The Boston Red Sox are aggressively pursuing Roy Halladay, hoping to get a trade worked out before the winter meetings, according to Mark Feinsand and Bill Madden of the New York Daily News.

The Daily News report cites an unnamed source that claims the Sox are "putting on a full-court press" in the negotiations for Halladay. Since new Blue Jays GM Alex Anthopoulos is willing to trade Toronto's ace within the division, the Red Sox and Yankees are considered frontrunners in the Halladay sweepstakes, with the Angels and Dodgers also in the mix. For either AL East powerhouse, acquiring the right-hander would not only bolster their rotation, but would keep him away from a division rival.

Feinsand and Madden suggest that the Sox would have to give up at least Clay Buchholz and Casey Kelly in order to get a deal done with the Jays.

Getting Halladay on the team clinches the division title. Calling that up now.

I don't see where all this "you'll only have him for one year" talk is coming from. Up here (Canada, moreso Toronto) they have been saying any team that puts together a deal that is to the liking that the Jays will allow that team to talk with Doc about signing an extension before the deal is even done.
