I'm new here too. I'm still getting my feet wet. I' don't know all the rules and traditions.

The GT start "rule" was stated somewhere else today, maybe on this thread. As I understand it (so far), the person who starts a GT continues to start the GT until the Sox lose a game started by that person. After that, I don't really understand how the next person is selected.

I was asked to start a GT about 1-2 weeks ago for the first time. I don't know how or why that happened. I guess that there is some kind of understanding among "veteran" or "senior" members as to how the selection is made. I really don't know.

My advice to any new member that has a desire to start a GT is to continue to make contributions to the board without being a total ass. Eventually you will get a shot.

Maybe it would be helpful for a further explanation of these "rules" by a Mod. or our Administrator.

As you said, it's really just an unwritten rule that gets mistakenly broken every now and then. Not a big deal. A member will start a gamethread and continue to do so until the Sox lose. It could be as long as one game or a 15-game winning streak. If the Sox are coming off a win and the poster who started the gamethread for that game does not start it in time for the night's game, anyone can start it. We normally give until about 10 minutes before game time before someone else can jump in or the correct member yells last minute "HOLD ON A SEC I'M HERE TO START IT!" (lol, that's been me a few times.) If said member never shows up, whoever starts the thread that night now holds the mojo. For example, even though Dutchy started it last night (which is not a problem Dutchy, lol, don't sweat it), we won, and he would continue with it. HighMileage now, even though he interrupted Dutchy, must now start tomorrow's game thread if the Sox win. And, seeing how he's a Royals fan, I hope he starts the next three threads too. That would be a little ironic.

After a loss, it's free. Anyone can start it, even newbies if they'd like. We just ask that the game thread not be started until a reasonable time on gameday, so we can continue discussing about the most recent game before gametime.

Not that complex, just a little tradition that kind of popped up back in 2004 I think to have some fun. We know where that got us!

Anyway, back to the game thread.

So what's the consensus on CAPS MOJO tonight? It was some fun when it was going on last year at some point. Once the game starts, everyone has to type in CAPS until the Red Sox score their first run. Which, hopefully, shouldn't take too long tonight.

I'm down, lol. All these crazy mojos are fun.

Yeah, lol. I remember one time (I couldn't give you a specific game, though) when it took FOREVER to score a damn run. That wasn't fun, but for the sake of the mojo we had to be consistent.

Yeah, I can imagine what it would be like if we were shut out. The frustrated comments would look twice as frustrated all in caps.
