Tex is water under the bridge - but I doubt Lowell will contribute this year. We should geta 1st/3rd baseman by trading deadlines.

I doubt that. He wanted to play THIS SERIES against the Orioles, but the Red Sox put him on the DL as a precaution.

Agreed. We need a guy who can slot in and be productive at 3B, preferably with a bit of versatility to shore up other positions too -- just in case Lowell DOES come back strong.

Chone Figgins would be an incredible acquisition if you could get him. The Angels will never deal him but could you imagine a 1-2 of Figgins and Ellsbury? Talk about "Speed Kills!" A Yankee killer too.

Too early to give up on Lowell IMO. But if he is done, he'll be the first to admit it. Team guy like that. And I'll be the first to admit I was wrong.

he isnt done yet but he's not going to be as good as he was earlier this year and he is going to get a lot more off time our only saving grace is that we have better players coming off the bench than alot of ppl but none of them are fit to be starters for us. we need someone with atleast a decent bat too being that papi might not be around too much longer either.

Teahen?

He's the guy I want. As an LHH with good numbers against righties, Tito has a built in excuse to go to Teahen for a number of starts for reasons that Lowell will accept. Anytime Lowell is looking tired or sore, just bring Teahen in "against the righty" to smooth everything over. I could see Tito operating that sort of system very smoothly.

Besides, he plays a decent right field and we have potential injury issues there.

Figgins would be a great addition. As you said, it wont happen.

I like that idea alot what does Teahen's current contract look like?

The authority on contracts and salaries. You can look up all the contracts here. Very rarely is this site wrong.

Teahen is under an arb contract for about 3.5 million. He has a little over 3 years of service time, meaning we'd have cost controls on him for another 2 years if I know how this thing works.

Huff is in division. The Orioles may make him available and they may not. I doubt we'll like the price for the guy either way since he's a "proven power hitter."

Teahen is a better fit because Teahen you can bench without having attitude problems all over the place. I mean, if the guy was willing to move anywhere the ROYALS told him to I doubt he'll have a problem filling in around the edges for a team that actually wins stuff.

I'm not so sure of that with Huff, whose attitude has been called into question in the past.

plus Teahen is quite a bit cheaper than Huff being that at most Teahen comes at 4mil. a year but of course he is not nearly the power hitter that Huff is but he is a good fix especially if we can get a good DH or Catcher with power numbers (I have dreams of Joe Mauer in a Red Sox uni)

At first base? Because, like Saltalamacchia, that's where he will eventually be.

wherever he wants to play i just want his bat in the lineup

I don't blame you, I'm just saying his value drops significantly when that type of bat comes from 1B instead of C. Obviously, still a good bat to have regardless.

but Mauer will be a better hitter if he starts at 1b it'll be a lot easier on him

Mauer's the best offensive catcher in the game, plus he's a great defensive catcher. Put him at 1st and he's average offensively and defensively at his position.

He's not old, he's a catcher and he will be for a while.

Average? He has a 1.117 OPS this year, .879 career.

An .879 OPS would rank 13th out of 26 first basemen ( 200 AB ) this year. On the other hand, it would rank 5th out of 39 catchers this year ( 100 AB ).

I just think his value is exponentially greater at catcher.

Still' date=' he's pretty clearly going to improve upon .879 in the near future.[/quote']

He probably will. But it's not that hard to find a .900+ OPS first baseman. Just over 1/3 of regular starting first basemen fit the bill. Do we really want to pay for the roof to sign Mauer to be a first baseman, considering that?

I like him at catcher. Only 3 catchers have an OPS of .900 or more (him included) and his defense at the position is great. You're just not going to find a better catcher.

I saw an article by Olney on ESPN.com about the possibility of Mauer in a Sox or Yankees uniform' date=' but it was insider. Can anyone share it?[/quote']

I don't need an Olney insider article to tell me both will have a need for Mauer, both will bid on him and the Yankees will win him

Could be something else. Maybe Mauer takes a hometown discount. I saw in the SI artical about him he built his own log cabin in the woods of Minn. He goes back there to relax and get away from the spotlight of being a MLB star. He said it was the first place he went after a series with the Sox and the Yankees. SI made him seem like a simple farm kid with a great swing.
