Run differential is weird. I was checking to see what the standings were like on my birthday for the past few years' date=' and in 2005 IIRC Washington was the only team in the NL East with a negative run differential... and they were in 1st place. Crazy stuff.[/quote']

Over a 162 g season it is a pretty good marker of where the team should have finished. It can be misleading because one blow-out win or a blow-out loss (or 3) can really skew things.

By X W-L the Sox would have the 3rd best record in baseball, behind the Dodgers and TB. Of course, last year the Sox would have had a better record than TB (IIRC) so it all evens out in the end, I suppose.

I'm pooping out, going to bed early. Up till 4-5am too often past couple weeks.

Hope there's a W in the scorebox when I wake up.

Heidi Watney or Erin Andrews?

I had to do a quick google image search since I am not familiar with Erin Andrews. This is my subjective opinion. Heidi has much softer lines and is more feminine. And she does not draw attention to herself with the benefit of a wonder bra. I was thinking about two innings ago, Heidi has never looked prettier than she has tonight with a rain coat on. But, hey, I'm an old man.

Creepier than was necessary, but okay.

If they hang on tonight it will be their 6th straight win away from home and move above .500 on the road for the season

Its great to see them kick some ass on the road

It is also worth reminding you a700: 2006. 2006 was like 1986 happened all over again. Everyone was SO upset that the team didn't win and wasn't prepared.
I don't think 2006 comes close to 1986. The '86 team was a surprise team that was not expected to contend. They went on tremendous run and came within 1 strike of winning a championship. That was heartbreak. The 2006 team was overrated from the beginning. It was a poorly constructed team with a terrible bullpen and a very thin starting rotation. The in-season personnel moves were terrible. You could see that team falling apart months before the season ended. When they sent Jason (the Ultimate Loser) Johnson to the hill to start the first game of a 5 game series against the Yankees in the beginning of August, I thought we'd be lucky to win 1 game. That was not heartbreak. I thought the FO did a piss poor job that year, and they took accountability and made the changes that they needed to make for 2007. In the end, IMO 2006 was a valuable lesson, because it showed them that they couldn't rest on their laurels in a so-called re-tooling year. Fans who pay the highest ticket prices in baseball did not want to watch garbage, and they rolled out some garbage that season--Jason Johnson, Kyle Snyder, Rudy Seanez, Craig Hansen, Lenny DiNardo, Willie Harris, Dustin Mohr and Adam Stern among others.

Phillies pitching: 9 BB

Boston pitching: 1 BB

And there's your difference, folks. Well, the 3 errors in one inning helped, too.

EDIT: Make it 10 BB now.

They rolled out garbage while saying they weren't going to trade away the farm just so they could come close in 2006. I think we are seeing the rewards of that approach now.

Why hit for Ramirez? It's not like we need more runs at this point. We need the guy who just pitched a 12-pitch inning back on the mound...

EDIT: And I'm pretty sure he could have done as well as that, if not better...

I'm not going to revisit an old argument about the FO performance in 2006 when they publicly took accountability for their bad moves. They went out and committed to more than $200 million for 3 FA players in the off-season to fill the holes that were there after the 2005 season. You can avoid sacrificing the farm and still make good in-season and FA moves. The two are not mutually exclusive. They had no excuse for rolling out the garbage that they had that season.
