Example, you're missing my point. I'm not saying Wake is more valuable than DiceK or anything, I'm saying he is very cheap where as DiceK is not. I also didn't say DiceK pitcher poorly last year. My point is that DiceK needs to pitch at a high level to be worth his contract, where as Wake does not.

No doubt that DiceK isn't as bad as he has been recently, but some of us think he will continue to regress from last year. I'm worried of how he will fare if he continues to attack the zone (when he gets his stuff back). We haven't seen him really attack the zone in the majors.

I'd rather watch a game with Lou Piniella than Theo. He's not my idea of a fun night at the ballpark.

Wow.

While I think that Lou would be entertaining to watch a game with, there's nobody whose brain I would rather pick about baseball than Theo.

To each his (or her) own, I suppose.

I don't take it personally. I want this to be a board that has quality dialogue' date=' not people freaking out about a good pitcher who is going through his struggles. The thing that people take personally is the Sox decision to keep going with Dice-K.[/quote']

This is a game thread...where people are free to react to plays as they happen.

IMO, the serious discourse of players is more for other threads. Not that it can't happen in the GT's too, but ... just saying. Game thread...emotional reaction while watching...y'know?

I'll say this for Dice' date=' he sure does stimulate activity on the thread.[/quote']

This game is pretty nutty. Neither team seems to be hanging it together very well.

They all need to pitch well to justify their regular spot in the rotation. That is all. The money is being spent one way or the other.

Whether or not he regresses will be based on why he is struggling currently. If it is due to injury than that is possible. If it is due to location and not having fine-tuned his stuff since returning from injury, then I think there's reason to think that come later this year, or spring training next year, or the year after that, he'll look like a very different pitcher. He's simply too good to not look better than this. Again, injuries aside.

Why would I want to pick Theo's brain about baseball. Baseball is not my job. I go to the game to have fun. I know more than enough about the game to have plenty of fun. I wouldn't want to watch a game with a pointy-headed GM who is crunching numbers in his head. I watch the game with other fans who scream and have a few beers.

The only reason that I might want to watch a game with Theo would be to get some inside info for betting purposes.

Of course ms_sox, and I appreciate you taking a reasonable stand on the issue.

I guess I don't see why the "serious discourse" from other threads can't carry into our reactions about how games go, and into the way that people watch the games themselves.

Baseball is a game of probabilities. Sometimes the breaks go the Sox way, and sometimes they don't. I'm a few minutes behind, but I see the bases loaded with 2 outs and the Sox up by 3. Chances are they win this game.

Why? When Victorino made that catch on Youkilis with the bases juiced, did you calmly think that he go a really good jump on that ball and tracked it very well into the glove, or did you yell "Scumbag!!!" at your TV?

I suppose that's where we're different. I like to come to this board, or watch the game with friends, and actually know what I'm talking about.

I think if Theo were here he would have a lot to contribute to the discussion and I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that.

Of course, with your professed lack of interest in the "heady" part of the game, it makes me wonder what you've been spouting off about for 14,491 posts.

Actually I thought to myself "yet another reason why the World Champion Phillies enjoy having Victorino as their CF. Good major league caliber catch". I didn't take it personally so I didn't yell anything offensive at him.

Now, if it was A-Rod or Teixeira then you may see my passions flare a bit more. :D

I'd much rather watch with Theo. His private box has delicious free food and drink. I got some fruity DD drink there last year. Oh yeah' date=' and the baseball part.[/quote']

Do you suppose they have burritos in the luxury boxes? Dewars scotch?

Would you pick his brain CD, or would you ignore him so you could cheer and boo to your heart's content? Be honest... 3 hours with Theo... I would ask him a lot of questions he wouldn't be able to answer without giving away the Sox secrets.

I'm with you on this one, I'd grill him non-stop.

Personally, I said, "Oh bother," as I swirled my snifter of brandy. Then I lit a new pipe and continued watching the game and perusing the Hampton Literary Review. Like the rest of you, pretty much.

Leather armchair? Sitting in the "den"?

Sounds pretty good to me Beaneater.

While I kind of agree with ms_sox, I think tonight's discussion about Dice is relevant to this game. In the absence of action promoted posts, why not? As long as you guys don't get nasty with each other. Then I would say PM or go to another thread. This game is very winnable.
