SWEET!

http://www.theyankeeuniverse.com/?p=4034

Mike at RAB has the scoop. Jesus Montero is probably headed to Trenton, and will play there before the weekend.

Jesus Montero went 2 for 4 tonight. If this was his last game at High-A, Montero’s record will show a pretty little .356/.406/.583 batting line. He struck out just 26 times in 48 games. Montero leaves the Florida State league as the leader in batting average, slugging percentage, total bases, and OPS.

Montero will enter a much different environment when he hits Double-A. The hot, humid nights in Florida will be replaced with a cool wind off the Delaware River in Trenton. At 19 years old, he will be a full two years younger than any one of his teammates. A whole new set of challenges will come as Montero sees more advanced pitches. Pitchers will have better stuff and fewer restrictions on what they are allowed to throw. If Montero holds his own against Double-A pitching, he’ll rocket up the league-wide prospect charts.

Best of all, this move sets Montero up (potentially) for a late 2010 MLB debut. He’ll be just 20 years old.

Mods please do something to clean up this ridiculous clutter regarding Yankee minor league organizations and specific Yankee minor leaguers. We don't need a separate thread for each of their minor league organizations, and we certainly don't need individual threads for each of their minor league prospects. If a notable Yankee major leaguer like Wang or ARod are on rehab assignments, their progress would be of interest, but the daily progress of Jesus Montego and Whoever the Hell Austin is just clutter. I suggest that all of that crap be merged into one thread call "Yankee Minor Leagues".

Yankee fans here have NOTHING.

This is simply a place for us to make fun of all your FAIL.

We MAKE you think this s your space, but in reality, it's ours.

Oh, and i second a700.

I third it. There will be two kinds of posts in this thread. Jacko's ball washing, everyone else mocking him. Does this forum really need a separate thread for promotions that will garner less than a page worth of responses on topic? Not really. Stick these updates that nobody cares about in the threads for the relevant team that nobody reads.

Besides, what is going on here is very transparent. Nobody responds to or reads the Trenton Thunder thread. What Jacko wants is to get our attention, headline news, it's like he's saying, "I demand you pay attention to how awesome our guy is". Nobody cares, give it a rest, and go circlejerk on the Yankee prospect sites you copy and paste from.

Srsly, why would Jacko spend all this time updating the progress of "prospects" to the five Yankee fans who come here?

I want to keep these threads around.

I love it when Jacko lists the entire team for a Yankees farm club as potential ML's. Almost like Dojji's obsession with mediocre Red Sox prospects.

You are very strange.

Montero hit two homers and also walked yesterday. He started slowly at AA, but has started to pour it on. After no extra base hits for his first 11 games, he now has 3 homers and 3 doubles in his last 9 games. His line is up to .304/.377/.478, which isnt too bad for a 19 yr old in AA. If he continues to swing like he has over the past 9 games, he wont be in AA for long.

Those are great numbers for a 19 year old in AA. But he's gonna be there a little while lol

I vote for Jacko to keep them going.

If you don't like what's on TV, change the channel. Same premise.

Plus, it makes Jacko feel important. He needs it more than you guys know.

At least he didn't make a thread called "Montero doing well in AA".

No, believe us, we know ;)

You wouldn't leave him in AA for a little while longer? I mean' date=' he is only 19. Do you see him getting a taste of the bigs next year?[/quote']

Depends on what they need him for. I dont expect him to be a Sept callup this yr. From a 40 man perspective, it doesnt make sense to lock up a 40 man slot going into the offseason when we all know he wont be making a postseason roster in 2009. If they want to keep him at catcher, then he shouldnt see the bigs until 2011 at the earliest. If they want him as a part time catcher, DH, bat kind of player, he's damn near ready now.

Oh, Jacko!

A 19 year old with 19 games of experience above Single A is "damn near ready" for the majors? It must have been a crime that he wasn't ranked a better prospect than Matt Weiters.

Yes, he and Manny Banuelos made the world team. In terms of Montero, nobody has ever doubted his bat. It has always been the glove that they questioned. He's 19 and he is already 6'4" 225lbs, so he is gonna fill out something fierce. That makes catching a bit of an issue. Plus, he is very slow right now, and the prevailing thought is that he will slow down as he gets into his 20s because he will fill out. So, that makes him a poor option for corner OF. He has shoddy mechanics behind the plate, but they are improving a lot. His arm has come along nice, but the release is still slow. That being said, he doesnt have the speed or quickness to man 3b, ss or 2b. So its either 1b, C, or DH and with Tex signed on for another 7 yrs, C or DH seems most likely. If they truly cared only about his bat, then he would have made it to AA last yr and we would be talking about him getting called up right about now. He's been slowed by his D. But, he dominated high A offensively to a point that keeping him there didnt do him any good offensively. So they moved him to AA, a test he is starting to show he is more than equipped for.

He's played 19 games there, I think it's a little early to be making any judgments. He's a very talented prospect but I'd be shocked if he didn't finish out the year at Double A.
