TJ happened, still hasnt fully recovered

Ellsbury is quietly becoming a hell of a hitter

He just doesn't excite me. A singles hitter, doesn't walk a lot. Even in May, when he has his 20 game streak, his OPS is under .750. Meh.

Woooo Youk 5-1!

A LOT of people here were ready to give up on him earlier in the year.

Nice hitting by Youk.

cause he doesnt get on base enough as a leadoff hitter but pitchers are gonna be very reluctant to nibble with him due to his speed. he'll always need a very good BABIP

He'll learn to be more patient at the plate with experience. People were calling hima bust though.

During his streak he has had a lot of 1-4, 1-5 games. He does need to walk more and to get multi-hit games. I say he is still learning his craft. Even his base running needs work. But you can't discount his athleticism. They guy is so fast.

holy crap 11 hits after 4 innings

Im not watching the game. What is wrong with liriano? Hes getting hit very hard.

the only thing different has been a diminished ability to get on base but that could come with time but so far in his career, he is hitting for average

Compared to his prospect status he is a bust.

I can see why some people are disappointed in Ellsbury. But I don't think he is a bust. He's a work in progress.

Wrong thread but. . .Dunno if we have any Lax fans here but national championship game going on. Cuse, Cornell. Cornell just blew a 3 goal lead with 4 minutes left, cuse just scored the tying goal with 4 seconds left. Cornell had possession with 20 seconds left.

He's not a bad player, but I don't think he's a leadoff hitter. He doesn't get on base enough. Also has zero pop whatsoever.

Ellsbury is useful if his OBP is over .350. He used to be patient. Now, he hacks a lot. Right now, he's right around the .350 mark so he's useful. But he is so streaky that he'll drop that number again. He needs to become more consistent and more patient.

.332 coming into the game.

With Duke and UVA out, not as exciting around here.

Lacrosse isn't so big around here. By the way, the game is being played seven miles from my house.

Most players struggle with consistency through the early part of their careers. It's a chess match between pitchers making adjustments and the hitters counter-acting those adjustments. Pedroia was hitting .260 around this time last year.

So Ellbury has a .332 OBP right now (.336 is the MLB average right now), in the middle of a hit streak. I would think that number should be MUCH higher when a hitter is hot, right?

I considered him a bust last year. Right now he is a work in progress.

Before his streak it was .305, so it has improved a solid amount.
