What to do at catcher?

For us it'd be the perfect storm if we extend V-Mart.

I'd be more concerned about a third C. If our utility infielder is worth anything then our backup 1B is Youkilis.

With the amount of $$ it would obviously take to sign Martinez, Mauer, Bay (or replacement Bay) and probably Beckett, that 3rd catcher would be one of Kottaras, Exposito, Federowicz, Lavarnway, Wagner, etc., I have absolutely no doubt about that.

 

If V-Mart and Mauer can start 75% of games then the best of the homegrown guys will be fine.

Actually, I think trying to get Miguel Montero would be easier than Mauer. Maybe not only because he's young. But it's a good idea.

Maybe because Montero has proven absolutely nothing on the big stage yet, he is a great prospect but not one that is a consilation prize for not signing Joe Mauer, if we are going for youth why not try going for Wieters (not very likely at all just making a point).

I know he's not really a sexy pick right now, but what about Dioner Navarro? He's having a pretty much replacement level year this year but he was a half decent switch hitting catcher last year and he'd do for a backup..
