Ok, Excuse me for being a little pissed off and messing up my grammar when I’m shooting out a post.

With that being said, if you are going to f***ING criticize me on grammar and my spelling, you might want to learn how to READ yourself. I totally put two "L" on "until", but you did pick that up for me to change. God, you must be pretty damn stupid (well probably not, just a mistake). Oh yeah, let me get your "comma" between "plate and but" you forgot to put in.

So please keep your f***ing mouth shut about other people’s PERFECT GRAMMAR when you make errors yourself.

I don't think the comma is absolutely necessary.

I also think you need to chill out.

You are right, but I'm just getting my point across..

If he is going to talking about PERFECT GRAMMAR, the comma belongs. That would be perfect English.

Who said your English had to be perfect? The comma is not necessary, whether in "perfect" English or in "regular" English. No graduate school professor in the country would have taken points off for that. In fact, in my experience it would have been praised for brevity and not risking a run-on sentence with unnecessary commas.

Every middle school teacher would have found the difference between "know" and "no" to be worthy of a deduction.

I don't think you need to be perfect, and I really hope you didn't take it that way. If you're going to defend your grammar just make it more or less right, that's all I'm saying.

Don't be pissy, I also said both that I like what you bring to the board and that you are right about Victor.

I'd hate to see how you deal with people who disagree with you AND think you should no the difference between those words. :harhar:

Before you blow up just know I'm only playing with you.

Simple question:

IF we discard Varitek -- and it's looking increasingly like we will -- is next year's backup catcher in the system of will we be going for a traditional defense first veteran?

I could stand giving Dusty Brown a shot. Wagner, Kottaras, and in theory Otness are also in house options for next year.

I'd just use one of the guys already in the organization as the backup. Let them all compete for the job in the spring and whoever does best gets to back up V-Mart, and catch Wakefield if they don't want to subject Martinez to that.

No need to make a deal for a glove man when you already have guys like that in your system. Catcher is not a place that the Red Sox need to spend a lot of time on going into 2010, unless it's to give V-Mart an extension.

Even if the Sox don't pick up his option, he can. But if he knows he is coming back as a back up, he might choose to go elsewhere. Also the back up needs to be a good player. He will probably be catching a little more then just Wake(if he is around). V-Mart will need time at 1B/DH to keep him fresh. So the back up should see a fair amount of AB's.

I wouldn't mind giving one of the guys in the minors a shot. They can always go after Mauer after '10 season:D

I would love to see some of the young guys play a little bit. Brown looked like he was very athletic and looked like he had a hose.

Brown gets on base decently and does have an excellent arm, but he's not the best in the world at keeping the pitch in front of him.

Oh really??

I live in LA so I don't get anything of the minor league games. Did you get to see him play much?

Also, that sounds like a pretty easy fix as long as he is willing to work really hard.

He'd be a fine backup catcher. He's hamstrung by the fact that he still has an option year left though. I think our backup next year is most likely Kottaras, and that the Sox believe that Kottaras has a nonzero chance of turning his power and patience into something at the big league level.

Varitek is awful. Period. If Tek is on this team next year I am going to flip out.

Why do I have a feeling the C on his jersey is going to give him a pass?

Posted
I honestly think we SHOULD bring back Varitek next year, but we should insert a "No suck" clause into his contract.

After this year? I mean really, how much does he have left? He is soo freak horrible.

That's why we insert the "No suck" clause.

The "No suck" clause would state that every time he sucked he'd get his balls kicked by every member of the team, and by every month of non-suck he could kick Nick Green in the balls for stealing his beloved Heidi.

Was Tek after Heidi or something?

Basically his #1 job

It probably gas. it will pass. Tek will be playing elsewhere next season. Someone will give him a shot. The only way he comes back to the Sox is in a back up role, or maybe a coaching/FO spot

Honestly, Brown isn't awful as a pitchblocker, he can catch Charlie Zink's knuckler reliably after all. But he's no better than average at that skill and it's probably his big defensive weakness.

from what I've heard and seen he's probably good enough at the other catching skills to make up for it.

Dojj. Brown is a AAAA player who can hit poor pitching and is a passable catcher. Usually, you want to gain something when you use your backup catcher. A lot of teams have defensive specialists as backups, like NY does with Molina and will next yr with Cervelli. The sox are probably going to be looking in that direction for 2010 IMO. Cause VMart is not a good catcher, but his O makes up for it. And if he's only catching half the time (DH and 1B other times) then it might be a good idea to get someone who can be an upgrade on the defensive end. Brown isnt that guy

Is anyone else getting sick in the stomach with the fact that Becket still does not work with Martinez? Does that not potentially mean that Sox start playoff with Tek in starting line-up?
Posted

Beckett knows that he walks a pretty fine line, and that his stuff can get out of order pretty easily. I'd rather walk the stiff out there for the rest of the season than force Beckett to throw to a guy he doesn't trust.

The only thing about the whole arrangement that really worries me is that it might mean Beckett, who holds a lot of clout as an ace of the team, might put pressure on Theo to pick up the team option on Tek.

I think we should all expect that Tek will play in a few playoff games... at least one in the first series and (god willing) more in subsequent series.

Tito's style is to mix the lineup up, even when it makes none of us happy.

Mirabelli started game 4 against the Guardians in the 07 ALCS, and Bobby Kielty started game 5. Tek will play and it won't be the end of the world.

Why mix and match line-up in play-offs - should he not always send the best line-up. Mirabelli playing ( other than catching Wek) is OK but playing Tek for Victor will be horrible.

One argument could be that Martinez can't catch regularly - but can he not catch all games in the play-offs? That is not many games compared to regular season of 162.

No. Not even in the playoffs. You'll wear everyone down if you just send the same guys every night. Granted you should see the backups a whole lot less but you're never going to have an Ironclad 9 that can all play every October game.

If we had 9 Yaz's we could.
