Well, Kevin Youkilis took batting practice tonight, and the results must not have been very good. Youkilis left the batting cage at 6:20 p.m., and the Red Sox just announced he is now on the disabled list, retroactive to May 5. Infielder Gil Velazquez will take his place on the 25-man roster.

Youkilis first dealt with a deep bruise and tightness in the area surrounding his left oblique last Monday. He left the game against the Yankees, and he has not played since. Youkilis was out of the lineup, and Francona said before the game he was still hopeful Youkilis would not need to be placed on the disabled list. That won't be the case.

Bout the last guy we could afford to lose.

Calling up Velazquez might be another bad sign too. The reason you do that is in case Pedroia takes awhile to come back.

I'd rather see Denker or Carter get the call personally.

As we have learned with obliques, they are a bitch, they take awhile to heal and they creep up if not given enough time to heal. Jeter just missed a game with it too. And I have a feeling it will end up the same way

I actually had a grade 2 oblique strain once.

It's a pain i would not wish even on A-Rod or Jeter.

You move, it hurts.

You breathe, it hurts.

You eat, it hurts.

You sneeze, it hurts.

Sudden movements result in epic pain, and any sort of physical effort is a no-no.

In short, they suck, so let's hope Youk's is not too serious.

I went through one last season. No fun at all.

I remember when Christopher Trotman pulled his oblique during a swing back in '05 and acted like he got shot. What a puss.

Sox are saying he could be in Pawtucket this weekend and join the Sox next week.

I hope so , I have tickets for the 20th and the 21st and would like to see all the regulars in action

When Youkilis is activated, Bailey should go right back to AAA. He didn't distinguish himself with the bat and his glove is horrible. BTW a slumping Ortiz is a better DH than Baldelli. If Tito wanted to make some use of Baldelli this weekend, he should have put him in RF to give the brittle J.D. Drew a break. J.D. could have DH'd in one of the games.

Did Bailey get sent down for Youk?
