Highly disagree. Rose has a jumpshot and Rondo is an extremely overrated defender.

Rondo has a decent midrange jump shot, and his FG% across the board is better than Rose. That combined with his far superior defense, passing, and rebounding give the edge to Rondo.

How exactly is Rondo an overrated defender?

Rondo's a top 3 PG defender in the NBA, but I still think a lot of Celtics fans think the kid is DJ.

If I'm the Celtics, I'm taking Rondo, if I'm taking the Bulls, I'm taking Rose.

Rondo is a better all around player, Rose is a better scorer with a ceiling twice as high as Rondo's.

There's a difference of course that this is Rondo's third season and it is Rose's first.

Rondo is a terrible on the ball defender. He gambles way too much but lots of times gets away with it thanks to KG and Perkins, two of the best interior defenders in the league.

Okay? I'm talking about the better player right now, that's it.

He does gamble a little too much, but for one a lot of those gambles pay off, and two he is a pretty good man defender.

He really isn't though, watch him try to defend one on one.

I will say this, he's probably one of the top 5 help defenders for PGs in the league - but his defense is very overrated by Celtics fans.

As for the years argument, if they are putting up comparable numbers (and they are) when it's one player's first year in the league and another's third, it's pretty clear who the better player is, right?

When he doesn't gamble, he's fine.

I don't follow.

If Rondo and Rose switched teams, I'll bet Rondo takes the Bulls just as far if not farther than Rose has gotten them so far this year. He might not put up 36 points in a given playoff game (maybe he could, who knows), but he blows Rose away everywhere else.

I don't see where experience factors into this. If I'm talking about better player right now today, its Rondo. Experience is just a qualifier of sorts that Bulls fans have been using lately to try and enhance Rose and make his 36 point game seem like the single greatest performance in the NBA since Kobe's 81, and make games like game 2, where Rondo s*** all over him, irrelevant (in their minds) because he's inexperienced.

I disagree. The Bulls do not have a Ray Allen or a Paul Pierce to help shoulder the load.

Would they be a playoff team? Maybe. Would they be as good as they are now? I don't think so.

No qualifier needed.

If they are comparable overall players (Rondo being slightly better, I will concede) but it is Rose's first time against NBA-level competition but Rondo's third go-around, you don't think that sways the argument a bit?

Ben Gordon is as good as Ray Allen offensively, and Salmons is respectable. Rondo would do a much better job of finding guys as well.

It sways the 'who will be better' argument, not the 'who is better' argument.

that's fine.

Rondo is a slight upgrade now (at best) but going forward I take Derrick Rose 100% of the time.

Fair?

Rondo > Rose

I know his game 1 was sexy, but night in and night out Rondo is the better player. I think Rose will surpass Rondo at somepoint, mainly because Rose has a jump shot. If Rondo ever learned to shoot, he would be in the conversation for being one of the top 3 point guards in the league.

Top 5 is more like it. Paul, Williams, and Billups are the best. Tony Parker and Devin Harris are up there, too.

I'd rather Rondo over Devin Harris - Harris's defense has slipped incredibly.

Rondo has a great benefit being the perfect fit for this team. It's not to the level of Nash in Phoenix, but it's like that.
