Schedule

First game was a day game today. Pawsox won 6-4. Of note, Dan Bard recorded the save with 4 K's in 2 perfect innings. Dusty Brown went 2/5 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI.

Enrique Gonzalez got the start. Not sure when Clay or Bowden make their first starts.

Not really anyone else worth following, although I suppose I'll check in on Kris Johnson from time to time.

Discuss.

Not an unreasonable prediction, but it would depend on him cutting down his walks.

ORS -- do you consider Daeges "worth following?" He's in Paw. Was 1 for 4 with a walk.

Dusty Brown is a guy we could definitely wind up seeing in a Sox uni this year. He went 2 for 5.

BTW -- Kyle Snyder and Bobby Kielty sightings on Buffalo

Daeges has a DH body, plays DH defense, and hit like an premier MIF prospect in AA last year. He's got the body to break out into some serious power, and his BA/OBP are quite good, but he's got to start hitting like he did in Lancaster without needing the launching pad.

Daeges kind of reminds me of Youkilis offensively. A very patient guy with possibly quite a bit of late-blooming power potential.

Daeges reminds me of a player we have in our system, Chris Malec. A guy who plays pretty crappy D, but is listed as a utility guy capable of playing 2B, 1B, SS and 3B. But their offense is solid. Good average guys and fantastic eye guys (.291 career BA and .394 career OBP). Its difficult to really place them in a system. They both will likely end up as super utility guys like Catalanotto, whose major asset was offense or if either develop consistent power, a LF or RF.

Yeah, Chris Malec, not on the Pawsox, so.....

Decent outing from Bowden today for the Pawsox. He went 4.2 with 2 H, 2 BB and 5 K's. The walks are uncharacteristic of him, but he struggled with location in ST.

Bailey with a dinger.

Pawsox up 3-0 in the 6th.

Clay Buchholz had a bit of a rough outing yesterday:

3.2 IP, 3 H, 1 ER, 4 BB, 3 K

Daniel Bard continued with another dominating outing allowing no baserunners and striking out 2 over 2 innings.

Gotta ask at what point do we say that Bowden has surpassed Buchholz when Buchholz is struggling and Bowden isn't?
Posted
I dont know but it isnt after one start. I think Buch is gonna have a monster year, he just might have a rough period getting over the disappointment of not making the big club

Um, do the ST starts mean nothing?

Have Wakefield and Penny surpassed DiceK and Lester?

You guys are jumping to conclusions about what I said again. I didn't say anywhere that I thought Bowden has surpassed Buchholz as of this moment. I only asked whether and when that line might be crossed.
Posted
You stated that Buchholz is struggling and Bowden isn't. I pointed out that its an unfair statement to make after one start each
Posted

ok....Buchholz outperformed Bowden in the minors last year and you could say Charlie Zink outperformed both of them

to me, one surpasses the other one takes their chance in the majors and runs with it

I think Spring Training quelled some fears about the sox brass "ruining" his delivery. Its the first start of the spring. You cannot read too much into it if the pitcher doesnt have location. Hell, Price looked awful in start #1.

He deserves a permanent promotion to AAAA.

Looks like he's going to skip that level. Too bad, so sad, you'll have to root for him to succeed or root against your team.

Why would you suggest to do otherwise. I have nothing against Bailey. I like the guy and got his autograph a couple of years ago in ST. He's a solid hitter but a below average fielder. He's just seems to be one of those guys who is too good to be in AAA doesn't have enough tools to earn a permanent place in the majors.

Daniel Bard struck out 3 on a total of 9 pitches yesterday. He's allowed 1 ER in 9 IP, walking 3 and striking out 16
