Yea' date=' its pretty tough to argue Lester has been the best lefty in the AL at any point of his career[/quote']

Santana through 06. Sabathia 07-mid08. Lee pretty much all of 08. Now Sabathia again.

I don't accept that Lowell went up there looking for a pitch and swung when he found it. Shields couldnt find the strike zone if his life depended on it yesterday. I just dont see how he takes his bat off his shoulder in that situation when a walk brings in the tying run
Posted

Not even when Mike Lowell's specialty brings in the go-ahead run too?

I don't like the result either but I'm not going to be for handcuffing Lowell or not letting him swing at a pitch he thinks he can crush..

when a pitcher is THAT wild, youre damn right im leaving the bat on his shoulder. its the same reason most guys dont get the green light on a 3-0 count

Haven't been able to watch most of the West Coast games since they start at 4am here, but the team seems very flat. The offense has been unspectacular, a long with the SP(outside of Beckett and Penny, both have looked positive so far). But I don't believe the Sox to be a sub par .500 team, so I'm sure they will heat up at some point. Let's be thankful that TB and The Yanks have started slow, and that Toronto and Baltimore are 1/2 in the standings.

I expect them to take tonights game' date=' this team has too much talent. Cant imagine a 2006 type season[/quote']

You'd be surprised

The 2006 team was tearing up the majors through July then got hammered by injuries

This team is better than 2006 team overall - when the pitching was a huge issue. Unfortunately - Tampa Rays were the designated last place team that year - they are probably favourite to win the division now.

That's what it's here for, folks.

What a disappointing performance by Brad Penny tonight. Sure, Lopez and Saito each allowed a run, but it was Penny that gave up a freakin' 5-1 lead. He's got to be lead goat here.

this should probably go in Reasons for Optimism but considering how bad Penny pitched and just how goddamn untimely and costly each of the three errors were, this team still lost by just one run in the bottom of the ninth

By your logic, Josh Beckett should be let go as well.

They just won 11 in a row. They have built up a litt;e credit from me.

Honestly I wouldn't be against letting Beckett walk when his contract's up either, if the price isn't right. The Beckett trade was a good one because of 2007 even absent any other possible consideration, but I'm not prepared to be positive the guy's worth the $20M/year he'll command much past age 33 or so. He's just a little too inconsistent and just slightly too injury prone for me to be sure he'll age well, and when he hasn't had his velocity he's been pretty hittable, leading me to wonder how we'll he'd translate into a finesse pitcher as his heater loses its zip.

Last time they lost, they were 2-6. Now they're 13-7. So that's good.

As for Beckett, I doubt I'd be too opposed to letting him walk if he demands too much. He's really only had one great season here.

there's a lot TBD before the team even has to think about extending Beckett. What will the market be like in 2011? What will the staff look like? Hell, what will Beckett look like?

Youre not going to win a lot of games when you commit 3 errors,

Lugo could be shot legally if we were in Columbia, my mother in law with Dementia and Paranoid Psyzophrenia wouldve caught the ball Lopez lost.

hey, 11 in a row and it is what it is

to lose to reyes is an insult and a temerity but we move on and play again today.

****ing lugo, my god i hate him....

That game sucked. Pasta mojo is only 8-1 now, damn it.

Penny sucked.

Lopez was terrible.

Is Lopez married?

I believe Lopez and Lugo are "life" partners...

If you lose Beckett, then you better hope to god one of the kids in your minors fulfills his promise and becomes a staff ace. Cause Lester is too hittable and doesnt get the K's to be a true front line starter, DiceK is, well, DiceK and the rest are all gonna be gone by 2011 anyway. When Beckett is on, he is one of the top 3 pitchers in baseball (with Johan and CC IMO). And, if healthy, he takes it to another level in the playoffs, something Johan and CC have yet to do. I will tell you this. If the sox lose Beckett and replace him with an up and comer, it will be a bright day in the Bronx. I know we hit him well since he's come over to Boston, but he is a possible 8IP 0-2ER performance every night.
