Yup, so it makes perfect sense that teams would want to put more runners on base for him.

And DipreG, before you go nuts about that, I get the point about the double play, but not in front of Pujols. Almost every player in baseball sees his numbers go up with the bases loaded. Managers are not, intentionally, going to give Pujols the luxury of hitting with the bases loaded.

I won't go nuts.

The fact is, it gets done.

Hell, i recall a game in September 2004 (i'll look it up for your vewing pleasure) where, if i remember correctly, the Cubbies intentionally walked Larry Walker with men on 2nd,3rd and 1 out with a righty on the mound, and Pujols GIDP.

Again, walking a guy to set up the double play in certain situations is common practice, maybe the hitter hasn't fared well against a particular pitcher, maybe he's slumping.

And remember, in 2004, Pujols had Edmonds and Rolen behind in the middle of their best seasons, making the decision much easier, i'll ease up and say doing it now is just plain stupid, but when they had the big Three in their game it was justifiable.

Oh, ok, well back in 2004 I could see it. I was talking more about the last few years.

Walker only IBBed once on the Cards in 2004 (not in front of Pujols)' date=' and the Cards didn't play the Cubs in September.[/quote']

I was recalling it off of my dome, you know?

It might also have been a "pitch-around" BB.

Or it might have happened in 2005.

The point is, i saw it happen, damn it.

And i'm gonna spend the next 22 minutes of my life looking for that game!

Good thing you watch the games, or you would have missed it.

Quite an advanced use of sarcasm for a 17 year old.

This is hysterical. Just read this part over and over for a good laugh. He doesn't project them' date=' but he developed a projection system and sold the formula...but he doesn't project them. ORS, JHB would be proud of you. [/quote']

Do you live in this world of absolutes that you apply on this message board? I'd bet not. In fact, I'd bet that you would sell something of yours that you determined no longer satisfied the objective you wanted it to if someone else valued it and made you an offer. Just think about the goat you are intimate with. Once you tired of it, you'd sell it for $100 if someone came along and made an offer.

You two might be taking this a bit too far.......

The Yanks are clicking on all cylinders now and their defense has gone an amazing 18 games without commiting an error,i find that simply amazing..Got to give credit where credit is due and this surge started with the return of the long eyelashed and short horned Arod, when do we see them again? We are the only team that beats them like a 10.00 bronx whore the night before rent is due...Nice avatar with the pink hat there #21,are those little watermellons on the hat?

Sure there is. It's called CERA. The Yankees CERA is much lower when anyone but Posada catches. I've always said the defensive contributions of a catcher are VASTLY underrated. In my opinion' date=' the most important defensive player, by far, is the catcher [not including the pitcher'].

Explain why Jose Molina had a CERA of 12.21 in 2006? Why isn't CERA consistent from year-to-year? Why are you such a f***ing idiot?

I ask him a question about the evidence that would prove that Molina's vaunted framing abilities were really worth as much as Gom claimed. He responds with CERA. Nothing about Molina getting more called strikes than Posada.

Gom goes down in flames, again.

Umm...

Let's see...Jose Molina had a CERA of 3.98 in 2006. You're saying he had a CERA of 12.21? On what, your Playstation? Want proof? Here you are: http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/molinjo01-field.shtml

As for proof, I offered the most I could using limited statistics on fielding because there aren't any fielding statistics for catchers that are very accurate. The closest is CERA in my opinion when comparing catchers on the same team.

You're calling ME a f***ing idiot? Get your numbers straight. Now, go run along, little boy. This is a debate for people with at leat three numbers in their IQ.

Burnett had one stretch where his sinker didnt sink. He walked Young, Blalock smashed a double, Cruz went deep, Murphy singled, Byrd singled and then Davis smacked the ball to center. Bad stretch. Before that and since then, he's been untouchable.

DOMINANT. ABSOLUTELY DOMINANT.

Jacko, he was in trouble all day. He missed his spots more than 50% of the time. He's just got such good stuff that even when he missed, they couldn't hit him. Exactly what game where you watching?

On another note...even though Posada can't throw, I'm happily amazed at his framing. He told Kay he watched every game while he was injured. Maybe he realized how much the announcers were killing his catching skills, and he decided to stop being lazy. Whatever the case, I'm happy.

you are too stupid for words

Whatever.

Dude get off it. You never played baseball. I am tired of having to EXPLAIN the most mundane of all things to you. If you played even little league past the age of 12, you'd see this. The fact that you don't means there is no way you ever played with people of any skill. By the way, I don't count being made the "manager" of your team as playing. It just meant you weren't skilled enough to play.

You are really tiresome. You whine and bitch about the umpires/unfair calls, you think baseball is nothing more than what you get when you make trades on your PS3, and you don't see the game within the game. That in it's essence, is ok, but you try to come out and make it seem like you know what you're talking about. Enough already.

Did Burnett pitch a good game? Yes. He was wildly effective tonight. Not dominant. He went 7 innings, 8 hits, one walk, 3 earned runs. He got a quality start. The game could have got away from him early, and nearly did in the top of the 3rd. Was he good? Yes. Untouchable? Please. You're like the little boy who cried "wolf"...but you've managed to do it for over 10,000 posts. You don't even have to have watched the game to have seen it for yourself, the f***ing announcers TOLD us about 10 TIMES that he was missing his spots, but that the Rangers weren't hitting him because he had such movement. In fact, O'Neill said he wanted to text Coney [David Cone] and ask him what would cause a fastball to tail instead of sink. You really are a clueless idiot.

If you can't see that he missed his spots more than 50% of the time, then you are a) Retarded B) Didn't watch the game or c) Watch every game with a dildo up your ass screaming out "Phil Hughes is a God!" and are too preoccupied with anal bliss to realize what I'm saying.

Actually...now that I think of it....

Every single one of the stolen bases tonight were off of Burnett, Posada never had a chance. He threw out Carroll yesterday on the pitch out.

This is funny. You actually use ESPN for making stat-related points?

Check out this:

http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/m/molinjo01-field.shtml

According to baseball reference, his CERA was 4.62 with the Yankees, but 13.39 in ESPN. Wait a sec...I'd be willing to forgive your error in not noticing there was a mistake there..if right above it, for Molina's 2007 in LA, in over 300 IPs..his CERA was...ZERO. When he caught, the Angels didn't give up a run. Ever. LOL!

A word of advice: Don't use ESPN to make stat-based arguments.

Come on 228...not true at all. Only one base was stolen off of Burnett. The other two guys in the first 3 innings didn't get great jumps. Posada's shoulder just isn't right.

I guess I would have to see the plays again. Burnett just does not do a good job holding runners on. Obviously Posada's throws could have been better, but, in my opinion, Burnett did not give him a lot to work with.

Were you watching the game!!! LOL. Gom, Posada didnt have a prayer on any of them today. That being said, he didnt really show us anything since he sailed two of his throws. You keep trying to make inferences on things that are either isolated or are not true. You need to step back from your gut reaction and actually watch the game rather than enjoy the game as a casual fan and get pissed that something bad happened to the team. You just dont have a clue and it really is funny.
