When a guy starts performing at a higher level at age 36 or 37, think PED especially when they start attributing it to his work out ethic, martial arts, etc. When players get older into their mid-30's, they don't get better.

Also has a 1.000+ OPS on the road.

Can you honestly not see the difference between Adrian Beltre and (insert scrub here), and Ryan Howard, Chase Utley and Jayson Werth?

What are you talking about?

I acknowledge that CBP has a big impact on Ibanez's numbers, as he has ridiculous numbers there. But I'm also saying that's not the only reason why he's doing well.

I'm not talking about OBP.

I'm talking about getting good pitches to hit in that loaded lineup.

Haha it does look the same.

But you're right, lineup protection is another factor. I'm sure he'll regress though.

He will, but he'll still probably have a career year SLG% wise though.

Color me concerned

Bruney is out once again with elbow soreness and they swear his MRIs are clean. Well, thats one thing about MRI's. They have a high specificity, meaning that there arent a lot of false positive, but their sensitivity for UCL tear isnt great, meaning they have a lot of false negatives. Recurring elbow pain in the absence of MRI findings tells me he's gonna head to the knife and they will likely find a frayed UCL and he'll have TJS.

I did not see Wang pitch tonight as work got in the way. But judging by the fact that he was getting lit up like a Christmas tree makes me think that both his velocity and location are off. Something is amiss with him. Something he might need an entire offseason to fix. Or something he might not get back at all. We'll have to see how he does the next time around. But I am concerned about his ability to help this team.

That being said, they seem to have found something in this Aceves guy. Maybe he steps up to swing man/7th inning guy, Coke moves into 8th inning and Mo stays in the 9th. At least we can build a semi reliable bridge to Mo while the rest of these guys sort it out. As it stands, if Veras, Edwar, Melancon, or Robertson dont make a difference and Marte and Bruney remain out for an extended period of time, I see a deal on the horizon. Huston Street will be availabe for the right price. We might have to meet that demand.

"standard deviation is a measure of the variability or dispersion of a population, a data set, or a probability distribution."

The variability or dispersion inherent in a data set has more variability in smaller sample sizes. If the team ERA is say 4.00, one catcher may have been behind the plate for 2 runs, the other for 6 runs. The deviation from the norm is greater. The smaller the sample size [2 months in 2007/2009 as opposed to 2008] will yield to a greater deviation. Also, as the controls change [teams, leagues, ball parks] so will the deviation, which is why Woolner's analysis is a joke. Go back to school folks.

Regardless of the semantics, my point is the same. If you flip a coin once, you will have a greater deviation than if you flip it 1000 times.

Anyways, until Jacko comes up with any proof, the argument is over. I hope to God that at the end of 2009, I'm wrong. I really do. Because for that to happen, Posada would have to learn how to frame a pitch and get his CERA down to below 4.

If that happens, I'll be inviting all of you to my wedding with Megan Fox, and I would ask Jacko to be my best man.

On tonights game, only that Ruiz? homer was a cheapie, I thought everything else was crushed. Tex hit the longest homer yet at the new stadium.

A data set of one has a zero std dev. A binary example (0=tails, 1=heads) will trend toward a std dev of 0.5 in larger samples. Your example is as wrong as your first use of the term.

School's out.

Hahaha. Man, they just keep coming. Good work ORS.

ARod is actually hitting clutch homers and Melky is just dynamite in our last at bat. Solid win, albeit a lucky one. We once again got some depth from Pettitte, and aside from one pitch left up to Mayberry, he had a hell of a game. Now, NY and Boston are tied and Toronto is a game back in the L column.

My softball team could put up some crooked numbers against the Philly staff, especially if we were playing with a wind stream at our backs.

So Jacko...we've now resorted to standard deviation as Jacko [and his bitch sidekick ORS] as the main argument. Fine, whatever. My point still stands, and no one has given a shred of evidence to the contrary.

Enjoy this pitching while you can Jacko. It disappears in about a week or so.

Last time I looked, both teams were playing in the same stadium today. I could be wrong.

JA Happ is a young lefty who has good stuff. He's gonna be inconsistent, but today he was lights out. It happens. But we came back to win. You guys sucked against Pelfrey, who was last season what Happ is at this point. But we finished and you didnt.

Happ has a very good changeup and he used it well.

A win is a win.

Keep in mind, the immortal Santos just bitch-slapped your closer. Such is baseball.

Reminds me of the time Marco Scutaro and Bill Mueller hit walk-offs of Mariano.

It always seems to be this kinds of guys that get the good closers.

Sidekick? Please, I'm just as critical of the stupid s*** he posts as I am of yours. It's just that lately, you've outdone him in that department. Don't blame me that you put your foot in your mouth up to the knee.

Well, yeah, I suppose there has been no evidence if you are going to continue to ignore the point I made about framing pitches and the impact of count on hitter performance. You brought up CERA, and many responded describing the utter worthlessness of that stat. You have yet to address the impact I brought up. This is you doing exactly what you are incorrectly faulting the board for. In other words, it's a typical Gom argument. Here's the outline, they are all the same.

1. Make a nonsensical point

2. Use a s***** stat to back it up, like CERA or Wins (for a pitcher)

3. Ignore rebuttals

4. Claim victory

Wash, rinse, repeat. It gets old.
