The big number ? 36.2. Those are the IP from our starters in the 5 games not pitched by Hughes. And who would have thought, we'd win 4 of those 5 games. Starters IP is the name of the game. 8IP from CC. He's getting hot. We have Hughes up next, cross the fingers that he can give some depth. If not, Wang will be up soon enough.

Another thing to notice is that Gardner reached base 5 of 12 times in the series, and scored 3 of those times. If he can consistently get on base at a 35% rate, he will be valuable to this team.

is there ANY way on getting Mauer on the red sox?

thats the 4th HR of this game

Trade Buchholz and Masterson for him? That might get it if:

1: The Twins decide they aren't contending this year.

2: the Twins don't think they can re-sign Mauer themselves.

The Yankees will never sign a pitcher again until they fix that wind tunnel.

The three home runs the Twins hit were crushed and would have been out in most ballparks. Jeter had the only cheap one.

Watched Hughes throw tonight. His stuff can be so good at times, but he needs a yr in the minors. He was throwing 94 mph 2 seamers with a lot of run tonight. But he really couldnt control it. Morneau got one of the 2 seamers that ran into the middle of the plate. He also got behind in a good amount of counts with it. And once again, his curveball was hit or miss. The fact of the matter is, they tinkered with his stuff, got him 3 minor league starts and now are getting an inconsistent rookie out there. Its expected, but its obvious that he isnt ready yet.

Gardner was a breath of fresh air out there and seems to be turning a corner since Melky won the CF job. If he continues to be able to drive the ball (like his triple, not the homer) then he will become a lot more effective. But his speed is game changing. Anything that the OFer doesnt get to right away is a 3 base hit at minimum. His OBP is now up to .330 and his OPS is up to .752. So he is really starting to be a useful and dynamic player for us.

Melky is continuing his hot april into may, something he did not do last yr. He looks like a different hitter up there. Maybe the yankees benching, his loss of an OF slot and the trade rumors refocused him.

Good game in the end. I thought the pen did a good job delivering 4 innings of 1 run ball and gave us a shot to win it. We now have Joba, Burnett and Pettitte to round out the series against their inconsistent young kids. This was the game we shouldnt have won. The next 3, we should. It should be fun. But this was the kind of game that really sparks a good long winning streak.

You really can't say, logically, that this is the kind of game that sparks long winning streaks. All you have to do is look at a few games this season to disprove that theory.

The 14 inning win against the Athletics was followed by a 4 game losing streak.

The comeback win against the Angels was followed by a 5 game losing streak.

With that being said, it was nice to win a game that Hughes started, and hopefully they can string together some good starts in a row.

You obviously aren't that familiar with Jacko's winning streak predictor (for the Yankees only). If any of the following things happen, it will spark a winning streak of epic proportions.

1. Win with a late inning comeback

2. Lose, but be "tuff" doing so

3. Win or Lose

Great success!

Hughes will be best remembered for the main reason Cashman gets fired. He will never be more than a back of the rotation starter....if that. What a collosal waste of trade bait.

you are delusional

Hughes: 2009

ERA W-L SO WHIP

7.56 1-2 10 2.10

It's amazing, but he actually got WORSE from last year, when he finished with a 6.22 ERA.

Santana?

Johan Santana 2009 STATS

ERA W-L SO WHIP

0.78 4-2 60 0.96

Last year?

2.54 ERA in 234.1 IP.

YOU CALL ME "DELUSIONAL" ????

Yup. Definitely. Go back to your Harry Potter books. That's where your reality lies.

from the sounds of it, Wang is expected to start today in AAA, and if all goes well, they might move around the schedule to fit him into the rotation. That would mean one more start for Hughes vs Guthrie at home and then likely Wang would slot in after him and the rest would be pushed back a day. If Wang comes back strong, then this team is gonna be very, very good.

I'm going to call you Hagrid from now on. Except that he's smarter.

Explain. Right now one of there main weaknesses is that Hughes is really struggling every five days. Wang would solve that.

Terrible baseball right there from Jeter with the heart of your order up.

EDIT: It's incredible how little offense this team has right now.

Mauer never should have been in position to be ahead in that count. The first and third pitches were strikes, and the third one wasn't even borderline.
