His temper tantrum and shitshow got him....$5 million extra dollars.

At my current salary it would take me about 100 years to earn $5m. I've worked my ass off over the past few weeks. Manny has refused to work, and he got more money.

Good lord, why do I even watch these guys? :dunno:

Not so fast...

Agent Scott Boras has denied that any Manny Ramirez deal is in place with the Dodgers, and ESPN has retracted their initial report.

Sort of. Enrique Rojas, who previously said it was agreed to, is now reporting that the two sides have "finally reached some common ground in their negotiations." That's ESPN speak for "we blew it, but we're going to do our best not to admit it." It's probably only a matter of time until something does get done here, and we'll trust SI.com's Jon Heyman, the unofficial mouthpiece of Boras Corp., to have the scoop.

5 million more than he would have made a a Red Sox, which if you look at the present value of the deferred money, probably amounts to more like 2 or 3 million more. After taxes and agent fees, this goes down to more like 1 million more. And after the cost of living increase, Manny is a poorer man who now has images problems, and has to get up at 10am to watch football.

Rejoice, for Scott Boras looks a little dumber today.

PC, what's the over/under for the amount of time it takes Manny to feel "unappreciated" by the LA front office?

This is the dumbest contract this off-season.

There was no other bidder. 15 million at this point. If not, see ya.

Actually no, he might actually have become poorer by signing this deal.

Because i recall reading somewhere that there might be a way Legacy Sports (former agency) gets a cut of Manny's new deal due to the fact they were owed a bonus from Manny's Sox contract which he ended through a series of maneuvers which constitute a direct assault on the financial well-being and could be easily attacked by his former agency to also gain 5% (besides Boras' 5) of the total value of his contract.

If such a turn of events were to happen, then Manny's new contract would be valued at 40.5 million dollars, add to that deffered money and legal expenses, and he might actually end up losing money.

And i would Laugh My Ass Off.

Make that $2 million...

Manny Ramirez's new $45-million, two-year Dodgers deal is worth $42,005,723 according to the union filing obtained by SI.com.

Ramirez is to be paid $25 million for 2009 and $20 million for 2010. But the actual payouts are as follows: $10 million in '09, $10 million in '10, $8.33 million in '11, $8.33 million in '12 and $8.33 million in '13. He is to receive no interest on the deferred payments, bringing the value down nearly $3 million from $45 million to $42 million.

For Ramirez, the key is the ability to void thee contract after 2009, at which point he can become a free agent.

A full no-trade provision is also in the contract.
