Quest for 3rd championship in six years begins today with two games. Beckett is taking the ball at 1:00, and Wake is going tonight at 7:00 on nesn agaisnt the twins. Even though preseason baseball pretty much sucks, its nice to see a few games just to get a fell for watching baseball again.

haha. i would leave that comment for the first regular season game, but it's applicable here as well.

and i agree.

Another season of Tim Wakefield is looking like it will be a hoot.

It was painful to watch Josh Bard suck at catching Wakefield. Why did they think he would be better this time around? Wake didnt get hard last night either, mostly everything hit were pop up bloops.

I don't see the harm in giving Bard another look. If he can't cut it, then he doesn't make the team. It's certainly a more relevant look than the Oil Can Boyd idea some were kicking around here. And, I agree, Wake got blooped and bleedered to death in the 2nd, but whether it is that or getting bombed, I still don't like watching him pitch (and this is coming from someone who recognizes the value he has added to the team over the last decade).

Yeah, I agree with you there.

I agree with you too. There's no risk in giving him a shot. And Bard didn't look to awful last night, it was the 1st game, so lets not get to ahead of ourselves.

I also don't like watching Wake pitch either. Love what he adds to the team. Just a tough watch LOL

The only pitcher in the league who i think is even worse to watch than Wake is Dice-K.

Every time he pitches he makes a f***ing wreck of my nerves.

The alternative to Bard are two minor league catchers who probably won't be worth a damn in the majors, at least not right now. So they might as well give Bard every chance they can give him

This bullpen is going to be historically good.

The Saito-Masterson-Okajima-Papelbon combo looks like it's gonna be the stuff of legend indeed.

Buchholz looked good again today striking out 6 in 3 2/3 IP. He walked 2 and gave up 4 hits along with his first run of the spring but a solid outing nonetheless

Masterson is starting this ST' date=' right? If so, I'd pick him over Buchholz at this point, in a pinch. I want Buchholz in AAA for a bit.[/quote']

He's started 2 of his 4 appearances going two innings each time with one three-inning outing. In total, he's thrown 7 shutout innings and amazingly, only used 40 pitches to do so
