I like to see that. Ideally, Josh Beckett will show up not looking like he polished off an entire Super Bowl buffet by himself

Not sure about you guys, but I would be there at the earliest possible point year in and year out. I think Lester values the game in the same way. Some players just take it for granted.

5 wouldn't be surprised if Beckett showed up in better shape then he ever has with the Sox. I think last season was a clue that even though he is gifted physically, he will have to put in the extra conditioning.

LOL possibly worst photo for Beckett ever:D

Must be nice to train in warm weather, my team has been doing indoor training for a month. And our 1st ST games so to speak are like 4 weeks away brrrrrrr......

That has to be Photo-shopped. There is no way the guy has a gut like that. I have seen him up close. There's just no way. It's some sort of distortion or something.

What a tool. It's never occurred to you that an offseason comprised largely of hunting and eating can cause someone to gain some pounds?

isn't that a photo from last year anyway?

Anyway, you sound like a sad, whiney little girl. "Nooooooo, theres no way he's that fat it just cant be possible. Wahhhh conspiracy I tell you, someone photoshopped it!! That's all there is to it"

You got to be kidding me.

I'm sure the gut wasnt that big, but in the throwing motion I'm sure some of it was moving around when the picture was snapped, that's how it looks at least.

"Whiney little girl"? "Conspiracy"? Have you been drinking on a school night? I don't care how fat he is. Paraphrasing Mickey Lolich, he's a pitcher not an athlete. Plenty of good pitchers have been over-weight. The picture is very funny, but it has to be some sort of distortion. Boomer Wells didn't have flab like that.

Way to s*** a chicken over absolutely nothing.

Lol, we should just enjoy how awesomely funny that picture is, it's like if they took Beckett's face and pasted it into Schilling's body. :D

Youk's there? Great news. Looks like the big fella is going to put his work in this year to make sure he doesn't go back to his 2007 ways.
Posted

BTW -- for what it's worth, Youk has really filled out over the last couple years. Another possible explanation for his power spike I guess.

...or he just got tired of the frigidly cold Boston weather.

His offseason work outs in AZ is pretty intense, so I would imagine that helped him fill out some.

lol can't blame him there, it was blastedly cold in Maine this winter, worse than usual. And snow, we had road signs on Highway 1 up Calais way that were completely buried. I shudder to think what they got up in Presque Isle or Fort Kent. Went to school there and it was always a fair bit worse than Calais.

ugggh I don't miss the winters in Maine for sure, summers are nice though. We are planning on being there for Xmas next year, so hopefully I'll be able to get some snowboarding in while I'm there.

I think the fact that he's wearing a tight jersey that's tucked in one pic compared to a t-shirt that's easily at least two sizes too big in the second pic has something to do with it

Well if you missed this Maine winter, then you missed a particularly brutal one. Usually you get a couple breaks, respites, where the snow melts a bit and you get temps over freezing for a couple days in a row. That never happened.

Nah that's Youks circa 2005 -- back when he played a game at 2B.

Most of my family still lives there, and they have been bitching about the winter all season LOL

Where in Maine you live?
