The New York Post reports the Phillies have agreed to terms with LHP Cole Hamels on a three-year, $20.5 million contract.

Hamels will receive $4.35 million in 2009, $6.65 million in 2010 and $9.5 million in 2011. Though it does extend Hamels three years, the contract does not buy out any of his free agent years. It does, however, offer cost certainty with one of the best pitchers in the majors during his arbitration years. Just 25 years old, Hamels posted a 14-10 record in 2008 before dominating the playoffs to the tune of 4-0 with a 1.80 ERA.

Been drinking there buddy? lol

EDIT:

The Baltimore Sun reports that Nick Markakis and the Orioles are close to agreeing to a six-year contract extension worth around $65 million.

Markakis is arbitration eligible for the first time, so the newspaper expects a deal to be announced before figures must be submitted to the commissioner's office Tuesday. The seventh overall pick in the 2003 draft, Markakis has emerged as one of the best all-around outfielders in baseball and hit .306/.406/.491 with 20 homers, 10 steals and 99 walks in 157 games last season. A six-year deal would buy out his first three seasons of free agency, keeping Markakis under the Orioles' control through the age of 30.

Solid deal for Baltimore

Agreed, I was thinking that they weren't going to lock him up earlier and a team may be able to make a steal. I think that's a great deal for Baltimore for a great player.

Just had an interesting (and slightly disturbing) conversation with Jeff Borris, the agent for Dan Uggla. I already had the salary requests for Uggla ($5.35M) and the Marlins ($4.4M) in their upcoming arbitration battle, so I asked him if there had been any last-minute talk of a multiyear deal for a two-time All-Star with 90 home runs the past three years. "The Marlins are not interested in signing Daniel Uggla to a multiyear contract," Borris said. "We always would be open to listen to anything, but they made it very clear to us they were only going to sign Hanley and Hanley alone." That was a pretty strong statement, so I pressed Borris a bit. I wondered if he had any concerns Uggla might not be with the Marlins on Opening Day, especially if he were to win a judgment that sits nearly a full million higher than what the Fish apparently had budgeted for him. "I don't know what their motives are," Borris said. "They made it very clear the club will be going in a different direction

Too bad he can't play SS.

Anyone else think he is on something? Him and Cantu both seem to have gotten sudden power strokes from nowhere. Just a thought. I could really care less if he is, just more of a visual opionion on my behalf.

"Sudden"

Uggla has hit for power ever since he got drafted, amassing a .443 slg% during his 3-year minor league career, also hitting 64 homers, for an average of 21.3 homers per year in the minors, he's always had power, he simply came into his own or fine-tuned his mechanics after reaching the Majors.

Fair enough, I didn't know that much about him to be honest.

The thing is, he fits the mold of "small guy who shouldn't hit for power", just like Petey, and that goes to show you, power is not all about size, just ask Jose Reyes, Hanley Ramirez and Jimmy Rollins.

Sorry JE, I thought I linked it. I didn't look back in until now, but D found the link.

I don't use MLBtraderumors itself as a credible source(even though it has gotten better over the years), but it's a great place to go to see alot of the better sources(ESPN,Fox,SI,rotoworld, ect) all in one place.

 Uggla's arms are the size of Pedroia's legs.

This is true. I guess I was just being overly suspicious.

There's a 20-pound difference between Pedroia and Uggla, so i fail to see how that is possible.

Uggla's 200 and Petey's 180, but Pedroia is smaller.

It was my attempt at a joke. Uggla is known to have "Popeye" arms.
