Old friend Jaime Moyer, 46 years young, signs a 2 year deal.

I really enjoyed watching him when he was with the Sox. I believe he was 8-1 when they traded him, I was 16 or 17, and really bummed out because those were bad years to be a Sox fan.

Does anybody else find it remarkable at what hes done? I mean, sure....other have pitched this old, but have others been this good?

Jaime Moyer

45 years old, 16-7, 196 IP, 3.71 ERA, 1.329 WHIP

Nolan Ryan

45 years old, 5-9, 157 IP, 3.72 ERA, 1.417 WHIP

Tommy John

45 years old, 9-8, 176.3 IP, 4.49 ERA, 1.514 WHIP

Niekro compares well, but he was a knuckler.

Although it would never happen, wouldnt it be great for a guy to somehow, someway get into the hall of fame although his career never really started til he was 33? To be released by 4 teams in 6 seasons and told in 1995, at the age of 32 that he should consider retiring? I think his career is one of the more fascinating careers in all of baseball, and pull for him to make the hall (although a huge longshot).

If he averages just a little more than 13 wins a season, for 4 more years (he just signed a 2 year deal) he could have a chance at 300, and how much out of the question is it considering he won 16 games this year, 14 the year before, and the fact he wants to continue to play, and the fact he pitches in the NL.......just sayin.

Not Hall of Fame material. If he gets in, that opens the door for guys like David Wells and Kenny Rogers. But I agree with you that his career is quite fascinating.

RIP Jamie Moyer...in your retirement home. You will be missed' date=' starting the winter of 2010.[/quote']

Never say never.....its not like he burned his arm out, and now he throws 82 MPH......oh wait he does, its not like he lost his ability to throw offspeed......wait, he did that too when he started throwing 82 mph high school fastballs.....

Never say never man, for some reason he continues to get it done, im not ready to write him off yet......look what happened 13 years ago when they wrote him off.

Well I was wasn't being completely serious, but if he does pitch beyond 2010 (which would be, what, 47-48 years old?), that'd be awesome for him.

Id like to see it happen, I pray a team will sign Julio Franco to get just one meaningless AB at the end of some shot season just to say he was 50 and got an AB (yes I know its been done before by Minoso). I like the guys who defy the suggestion that age is a qualifying factor for the ability to produce.

Jamie Moyer is the pinnacle of awesomeness, IMHO, pitching effectively at that age in that launchpad of a stadium is nothing short of amazing.

He's durable and he eats up innings with relatively quality starts. Low velocity, easy delivery should maintain his health. For short money, a solid pickup for any team...

49 years old, and in the starting rotation.

The guy is unbelievable. Ive always pulled for him.

I don't think he's going to be a good pitcher or even an average pitcher this year. But dang, just to get the confidence of an MLB team and be out there at that age is just nuts.

At this point he might have an outside chance at the Hall of Fame just for having pitched at such an age.
