I would be surprised if CC survives this season. He pitched 241 innings in 2007 and 253 innings this year. If he gives the Yanks half of that I will be surprised. I bet he'll land on the DL sometime next year. That is a workload that eventually will catch up with him, especially given that he's not exactly going to be winning any fitness competitions anytime soon.

He has a point' date=' although I think BABIP judges luck much better for a hitter than a pitcher.[/quote']

It works both ways, actually a high or low BABIP is harder to maintain for pitchers than for hitters.

And anyway, if sabermetrics like BABIP are considered "s***" on this boards, then I take it back. Let's use wins and ERA :dunno:

Aceves can be good in a role, and that is as spot starter/long man. I don't think he's ahead of Kennedy or Hughes for the 5th spot. I like Kennedy more in terms of stuff, talent and youth.

I think your comment on FIP shows more of how his season was a fluke last year than BABIP, because it does a better job of taking into account the "luck" factor that BABIP does, which is how the ball is fielded behind him.

Put another way, it's easier to tell whether or not a hitter is having good or bad luck through BABIP (good luck - Ellsbury in '07, bad - Pedroia in April '07) .

Wow nice job getting those stats. But they don't mean anything really. That's a really small sample size anyway.

You forgot these:

BABIP: .233 (LUCK)

K/9: 4.80

BB/9: 3.00

HR/9: 1.20

FIP (Fielding Independent Pitching): 4.80 ---> His FIP doubles his ERA. The guy was lucky as hell.

Your stats make him look as an ace. But his peripherals prove he sucked. Is like when Rasner had that good month of May, with peripherals not so different from these. You're the fool, get your facts straight.

My facts are straight, none of what I said was wrong, fool. I'm not saying he was an ace, but he did a pretty good job when he was brought up. Disagree all you like, that's fine.

As for the Aceves/5 spot argument' date=' it's probably moot. The Yankees had a goal of getting 2 starters and I still think they are intent on this.[/quote']

If they sign just 2 starters, including Sabathia, then the 5th spot is still open. They would need to bring back Andy, which needs to happen already, for it to be moot :D

I'll KILL him!

Ah yes, I was rearing back to when I assumed one of Mussina/Pettitte would be re-signed.

There was a reason why CC threw 250+ IP last yr. The Cleveland and Milwaukee pens were total dogshit last season. And yes, with his introduction into Yankee land, I expect CC to get a big workload reduction. I still expect 200+, but I wouldnt expect more than 220

Do you think the Yankees would consider the idea of a 6 man rotation to limit the innings on not only CC but Joba and others as well? I'm assuming we bring back Andy and sign 2 of Burnett, Lowe, and Sheets. If that's the case it's either 6 man rotation or move Joba back to the pen, which might be a good idea as well. Either would work, IMO.

Hey a700, ORS...remember when it was the norm for pitchers to throw 200 IP? I remember Nolan Ryan going over 300 IP a few times. I love how the guy has no history of breaking down, but everyone is talking like its a certainty. Out of Beckett, Lester, Joba, and Wang...he's the one LEAST likely to have an issue next year. Him and Dice are about a wash.

Wow...look at the sour grapes here. He'll break down, he had a bad post season....wow. Right now, the Yankees have secured the best pitcher in the AL East after Halladay. The Red Sox still have a better lineup and rotation, and the pens are a wash. All the Yankees did was replace Mussina's production.

You don't think that would be a good idea? That would fit all these overpaid bums into the rotation and effectively limit innings on multiple guys with workload concerns. I think it should at least be considered if they sign all these guys.

That would be an absolutely horrible idea. Lets pay CC 23 million a yr to pitch 27 times instead of 33. Lets do the same with Burnett, Pettitte and Wang? Thats an awful idea. When you have horses who can handle the load, you dont limit them. CC will take the bump every 5 days. So will Wang. If Lowe or Pettitte are here then they will too. The question is, can AJ and Joba? We know Joba wont. He'll be skipped a good amount seeing as he is the 5th starter so he can build his innings without going all Mark Prior on us. But I think we can keep AJ healthy if we steer clear from the 130 pitch games. Let him go 100-110 pitches when he's cruising and dont push it with him. We have the pen that can hold em. If we start getting 6+ innings a night out of the rotation, then we're set. The ALE would be ours

Is 6 more starts really worth the risk of injury to iffy pitchers?

Take 6 starts them and thats about 18, plus Joba won't make 33 starts. So there could be 24 starts available to a #6 pitcher. If someone told me all the SP your start the season with will make 27 starts each while some youngsters could split up 24 starts, and everyone stays healthy. I would take that.

A horrible idea? You're the one blaming CC's postseason failure on the fact that he pitched so many innings during the regular season. This would solve that problem. I mean I see your point, but idk I think it could work. It's so unlikely though I suppose we shouldn't even bother discussing it.

A 6 man rotation never works. It has never worked and it will never work. These guys are drilled from day 1 that they will get 4 days rest and then throw. Dont mess with that. In order to limit these guys, I am all about skipping starts here and there or just limiting innings. If we are up by 4 and CC is cruising into the 7th, pull him. Why have him continue. If we are winning by a good margin, dont have CC complete the game. That type of stuff. AJ is the kind of guy I'd treat with kid gloves. 110 pitches max for him, and I'd like it if he didnt go past 100 too often.

The press conference was scheduled for today at 1....but nothing. Anyone know whats going on with that? Why did it not occur and when is it being rescheduled for?

Everything I've heard said it was going to be on Thursday.

The Yankees have scheduled a press conference for 1 p.m. Thursday at the old Yankee Stadium, when they will introduce both of their new pitchers.
