Gerald Henderson is such an enigmatic player. He can be such an explosive scorer, like he has been against G'Town today, and then he can totally disappear. I don't mean just having a bad game, but it's like he's not even in the building. He's been playing well lately. Maybe this gives him the confidence he needs to stay aggressive on offense.

Low scoring in Nashville, with UT leading Vandy 28-20 at the half. I wasn't anticipating a Big 10 score.

In other SEC news, Alabama PG Ronald Steele is forgoing the rest of his senior season due to injuries. That's unfortunate. He was a talented kid.

48-43 in the second half.

POLAR opposites there.

And that's tough to hear about Steele. I've always loved his talent. I always thought he should have came out after that 05-06 season. His stock was pretty high then, would have been a first rounder/early 2nd rounder with his talent and the weak PG draft that year (although it turned out alright, with Rondo, Gibson, Rodriguez, etc.)

Is anyone safe? Va Tech is winning @ #1 Wake Forest 59-51 with 9 minutes to play.

Northwestern is attempting to hang on for dear life @ #7 Michigan State up 66-63 with 30 seconds to play.

Edit: Northwestern wins!! Wow!

Huge comeback by Wake, but looks like Tech will hold them off.

Jeff Teague played HUGE tonight... this kid is gonna be a special player in the NBA someday.

UConn and Nova in a tight one. Looks like UConn will hold them off though.

UConn will learn a lot from this experience...they needed to sweat here and learn how to close games out.

Glad they won - this just seemed like one of those games they'd lose over the last 5 years or so.

Notre Dame Saturday.

By the night's end there will be at least three, possibly four top 10 teams that have lost. #1 Wake Forest, #7 Michigan State, and either of #9 Clemson or #6 UNC. And don't look now, but Nebraska is leading #5 Oklahoma 38-32 in Norman. What a crazy night of basketball.

lol @ Bryant. Sorry, Yankshater.

Lost to a team that has lost 50+ straight. Go NJIT!

I'm truly embarassed.

I knew the minute I saw this being talked about by Woody Paige on Around the Horn that we had no chance of winning. We suck a lot. We apparently have a few recruits coming in who will make us a little more competitive, but still a cellar dweller, when we are full conference members next year though.

This is probably the best Duke "team" in about a decade. This isn't to say it's their most talented team or that it would beat the Battier/Boozer/Williams team, but they move the ball better and get others involved more than the other teams since about the mid-90's. Oh, it's the best their team defense has looked since that Battier team.

One of their problems recently has been a strong dependence on one or two players and a stagnant offense when those players run into a good game plan against them. They are getting more people involved and are more dynamic on offense. It's almost like the lack of one outstanding player has made them better than if they had one.

I know most of you guys can't stand them, but I don't care. They are more fun to watch than they have been in quite some time.

It sucks that I'll be nearing bedtime when the Uconn/Notre Dame game starts...

Hope you stuck this one out. This is an awesome game. 47-43 UConn with 11 minutes left.

Xavier and LSU is a good game as well over on ESPN2.

I got to see halftime. Even then it was like 1 in the morning for me. I was just ticked at the low FT% considering Notre Dame was fouling like it was going out of style. I'm so happy for the win though.

For the record UCONN did win their titles exactly 5 and 10 years ago...

Midseason Conference Predictions

ACC - Duke

Pac 10 - Arizona St

Big East - Louisville

Big 12 - Missouri

Big 10 - Illinois

SEC - Kentucky

MWC - Utah

CUSA - Memphis (Houston's pretty good, might give them a run)

A10 - Xavier

MVC - Northern Iowa/Illinois St. (too close)

Horizon - Butler (probably will finish with one loss, if they beat Wisconsin GB on the road)

WAC - Utah St.

WCC - Zags

CAA - George Mason

MAAC - Siena

SL - Oral Roberts

SC - Davidson

The rest of the conferences suck, and won't send anyone that can mount any serious opposition.

Dark horses in March - Siena, Utah St., St. Mary's, Houston.

Worst loss in March - VMI will win the Big South, and will score 100 points in the tournament, but they'll still lose by 50.

I dislike Kentucky for some reason... I know they're undefeated right now, but I think someone else steps up... too young for my liking.

And my #1 dark horse is easily St. Mary's... they've got some good road wins vs. major conference teams, and Pat Mills is the best player in the country that no one knows about, plus they've got two bigs who can play some ball too. . Kid can flat out play.

I really like Kentucky's defense, and Meeks and Patterson are good enough scorers for the offense. Tennessee is probably the most talented, but they don't play defense, and I find Florida to be overrated after beating up on a soft non-conference schedule. I'd rank the SEC as follows right now:

1. UK

2. Tennessee

3. LSU

4. Florida

5. Auburn

6. Mississippi St.

Unfortunately I think UK is definitely the class of the SEC. After the 'Cats I'd say LSU, Florida, and State are probably the best teams. We're a streaky team. We live and die by the 3 and when on we can play with pretty much anyone, but when we aren't we're capable of losing to some lousy teams. The bright side is that we don't have any seniors who get quality minutes. Everyone is young.

Hey Kilo, would you take Varnado's D over Thabeet's D? Just wondering what your thoughts on him were. Hands down the 2 best defensive players in the nation.

I wouldn't put Auburn that high. They're a lot better though.

I'd say:

1. UK

2. LSU

3. Mississippi State

4. Florida

5. South Carolina

6. Tennessee

Eh... it's splitting hairs I guess. The SEC is pretty weak this year, IMO, and none of these teams will have an impact come March. They all have big problems with some part of their squad. We'll see what happens, and anything can happen, and I honestly wouldn't feel anywhere close to comfortable picking a winner of the SEC.

I agree.

The NCAA championship is coming out of the ACC or Big East.

If you put a gun to my head and told me to pick who will be champ come March, I'd say UConn, but I've been drooling all over Wake Forest this year. Teague is a special, special player, and Aminu is one of the best players in the country as a freshman.

In that case I'd have to go with UNC. As much as I loathe them, I really see them winning the title this year. I would LOVE to be wrong, but with the ridiculous talent and depth they have I don't think anyone will beat them come tournament time. UConn would also be a good choice. Duke is playing as well as anyone right now also.

I'd pick Duke as well. As much as I hate Duke, I've watched UCONN long enough to know that they choke in big situations. Granted, they won in 1999 and 2004, and had arguably the best team in 2006 but lost to Cinderella George Mason (I think in OT). Although UCONN had been hampered by stars leaving in the past, this is one of their better teams, although sometimes they mentally don't play like it.

I'll cut them some slack for losing to San Diego in the first round because it was on a buzzer beater, and their star (AJ Price) tore his ACL 4 minutes into the game.

I think people need to remove 'this year's George Mason' from their vocabulary. 2006 George Mason was actually a good basketball team. If the officials were to remove Joakim Noah's dick out of their throat, the game would have been closer, and if they weren't wowed by Al Hortford's shimmy, they should have gotten bounced by Oregon and Butler.

Wow f*** FLORIDA. I hope they make the tournament and get routed by some s*** school like Stetson. I'm sending Tim Tebow a box with pictures of Homo ergaster and a copy of God is Not Great

I just hope that Florida doesn't even make the tournament at all...
