Dominic James out for the season with a broken bone in his foot. Hate to see that' date=' especially considering he's a senior.[/quote']

Yeah, I was going to mention that. Hate to see a kid's college career end on an injury...

Sucks for James, but I didn't see Marquette as a factor in March. They were undefeated at home until UConn, but I think one of those was against a legit tournament team (Nova)

It wasn't as bad as the one laid to Jeff McInnis back in college. I forget who did it, I don't think the player made it to the NBA, but it was in an ACC matchup. The guy crossed McInnis outside the 3 point line, McInnis fell over, the other dude offered to pick him up (while dribbling) then as McInnis was about to get up, the other dude pulled his hand away and shot (and made) the 3-pointer.

Hey Crespo, I know you're a UNT guy... how much do you keep up with Sun Belt basketball? One of my friends just won the Defensive Player of the Year award. He's at UALR. They've had a really good season this year and back home we're all really proud of him.

Yeah I was thinking that too. If you're going to storm the court, at least do it when you beat a legit team. That looks kind of bad doing it against a fairly decent Illinois team.

UALR held North Texas to 54 points. They must suck offensively, because they only scored 58 points, against one of the worst defenses in the nation.

I went to the game when they came to The Pit. What was your friend's name? I definitely saw him.

Western Kentucky is the clear favorite in the Sun Belt, the other serious contenders (UNT, UALR, MTSU), aren't seperated by much.

He's a high school friend of mine. I can remember him going toe to toe against Tyler Hansbrough in a few epic high school games several years ago. He's only 6'4'', but plays and especially rebounds like he's about 6'10''. Just a really good all around player who helps out in just about every category. You remember him?

UALR also has a player named Matt Mouzy who I saw play plenty of times against us in high school as he was in the same conference. He's that little white kid who shoots all the 3s. Solid player.

In terms of the SBC Tournament I think there's 6 teams who could win it:

1st class - Western Kentucky, UALR

2nd class - Troy, North Texas

3rd class - South Alabama, Middle Tennessee (probably longshots)

Is anyone as stoked about Championship Week as I am? This is absolutely the best time of year. March Madness and baseball right around the corner. I have the Directv Sports Pack, which means practically every game of every conference tournament is on somewhere. And I'll watch anyone and everyone.

Automatic bids: Cornell, Radford, East Tennessee State

Austin Peay and Morehead State are playing in the Ohio Valley Championship right now on ESPN2.

When I get around to it I will make a thread on my field of 65 and the rest of the tournament.

Congrats to Louisville for the Big East regular season title, it helps when the unbalance schedule works in their favor but I'd rather it be them than Pitt.

Tough loss for UConn today, I can't help but think if Dyson were healthy we would have won both Pitt games.

Best time of the year by far, two Boston teams in playoff contention, March Madness, Red Sox right around the corner.

Cool. So you predict who you think will be in the NCAAT? Or wait until it's announced then analyze it?

That Morehead State/Austin Peay game tonight was awesome. Double OT thriller. I was just at the Sommet Center a few weeks ago.

If Duke beats UNC, Pitt and UConn are locked into #1 seeds IMO and a case can be made for Louisville.

Memphis has to win the CUSA tournament.

Memphis has to win the CUSA tournament.

Isn't that a given though? CUSA sucks balls enough to begin with and the tournament is at the Fedex Forum. For the #1s I think you've got Pitt, Memphis, UNC, and whoever goes farther in the Big East Tournament between Louisville and UConn.

I think UConn and Pitt are locks. Louisville has 5 losses and benefitted from the unbalanced schedule in the BE. UNC just locked another #1 down with their win against Duke.

The last #1 seed comes down to Louisville or Memphis. If Louisville makes it to the finals of the BET, I would take their case over Memphis even if Memphis wins.

Oh I would too, in a heartbeat. I don't think the selection committee will feel that way though. If Memphis wins out, they will get a #1.

Don't be pissed because your team is garbage

OK. Pretty sure that "garbage" team beat you 5 out of the last 6 games at MSG.

Anyways, just got back from New York City and the Big East Tournament and the BET absolutely rips on any other conference tournament out there. Watching the ACC, SEC and BIG 10 championship games seems like a whole lower level of basketball other than Duke completely schooling Florida St, but what does that say. Here's what someone saw if they had an all day ticket at the Garden on Thursday:

- 3 top 5 teams - 6 top 25 teams

- Crazy comeback by Marquette and then eventual buzzer beater by 'Nova

- West Virginia beating #2 ranked Pittsburgh

- Oh, and the game of the year. #20 Syracuse beating #4 UConn in 6 OT's

Posted

'Cuse is ripe for the picking. They're hot, they're this, they're that, and I think SFA or ASU beating them is a shoo-in. It's laughable how overrated they are after playing 6 OT's. They wouldn't be getting blown this hard if they had counted the Devendorf (bum) shot. They're ripe for the picking right now, and if SFA doesn't take them out. Arizona State will. For as good as Jonny Flynn is, James Harden is leaps and bounds a better player.

I expect 'Cuse out before the Sweet 16.

TheKilo's Bracket Breakdown Spectacular

For each region, I will venture a guess to the following:

UPSET SPECIAL - This is the 1st round game in each region that has the greatest chance of being an upset - my classification is a double digit seed beating a single digit seed. In other words, anything from a 10/7 to a 16/1.

OVERRATED TEAM - This is the team among the top 4 who will most likely get picked off before the second weekend. For one reason or another, these are teams that the experts love to make a deep run while ignoring some glaring flaws that if left unaddressed, will result in an early exit.

DARK HORSE - Team that is a 5 seed or lower most likely to win three games and advance to the Elite 8.

REGION WINNER - Self-Explanatory.

Kilo I'm real interested to hear your opinion on what UConn is gonna do.

I personally have them in the Final Four. I think they were put at a real disadvantage in losing Dyson, but I also feel they lucked out big time in getting a fairly weak section. I think Thabeet has the potential to dominate the WHOLE regional level of the tournament. No one in the section really has any dominant bigs, and the only team I can see with a guy that gives him trouble would be JaJuan Smith in Purdue, but I don't think Purdue gets by Washington regardless. I think UConn gets by Memphis in the Elite 8. Memphis is pretty talented but their best assets is Evans slashing ability on the pick and roll and I can see Thabeet controlling the lane there.

MIDWEST REGION:

UPSET SPECIAL - Seems to be the trendy pick, but I'm going to go with (12) Arizona over (5) Utah. Arizona has lots of talent on their team. Jordan Hill, Chase Budinger, and Nic Wise will probably be the best players on the court when these two teams play. It's simply a question of consistency with Arizona - you never know what team you are going to get. I think we're looking at one win at the minimum for this team.

Honorable Mention - (10) USC over (7) Boston College. Athletes v. system.

OVERRATED TEAM - Wake Forest. Supremely athletic. Wins over UNC and Duke. Like Arizona, has the tendency to be maddeningly inconsistent. If they get past Cleveland State (and they should, although no guarantees with this team) a matchup with either Utah or Arizona awaits. I think it will be Arizona - a team that primarily plays zone, which could cause Wake problems.

DARK HORSE - Weat Virginia. A team who has made it to the Sweet 16 the last three seasons, they have the experience and the ability to put a deep run together.

REGION WINNER - Louisville. IMO the best defensive team in the country, their press will give teams fits all the way to Detroit.

I disagree across the board.

Upset Special: Dayton over WV. I feel WV is overrated because they're coming out of the Big East. Dayton has flown largely under the radar in the A-10 and they can PLAY, and have wins against FOUR tourney teams in Akron, Marquette, Temple, and Xavier. By my count WV only beat 4 tourney teams as well, and I feel like peopel are putting way too much stock into their win vs. Pitt.

Dark Horse: Boston College/USC. I feel like whoever wins this match-up can take out a really really weak 2 seed in MSU, and Whoever comes out of the WV/Kansas/Dayton pack (I have Kansas personally) can really be exposed. (let the record be known that I hate BC) I also wouldn't be so quick to call BC a system... Raji, Rice, Sanders, and Jackson are pretty good athletes themselves.

Overrated Team: I feel MSU is a bad 2 seed, and really benefitted a lot from a weak conference.

Region Winner: Wake Forest. Jeff Teague might be the best played in the country and he's certainly the most overrated. People have certainly forgot about these guys since they cooled off a bit once conference play started. They're capable of beating ANYONE at anytime, and I have a hunch that they take out Louisville in the Sweet 16 and make the Final Four.
