MLB and dip

What's the rules with the MLB regarding the dip???

 

Not sure if anyone knows this...

 

I heard that guys get fined if they are caught by a camera either with a tin in their hand or throwing a wad in their lip, but I'm not sure? I thought that was a little ridiculous, but I'm not sure.

 

I think it's hilarious seeing Upton go up to bat every time with a huge bomb in his lip, haha.

 

Any insights?

If the camera shows Francona on the steps of the dugout you can usually see tins on top of the doorway into the clubhouse. Some nights one, some as many as 4. Skoal Orange seems to be popular, Lime too.

I figured. I don't dip, doesn't attract me. But they're always orange and like green tins.

Illegal in the Minors, allowed in the Majors, as far as I know.

I know it's illegal in the minors for sure. I have a teacher who played for one of the Mets farm teams and I asked him. He said some guys did it, it was a fine, but their salary for the most part is so s***** it's not worth it.

I know years ago they used to have all kinds of dip available in all major league clubhouses, but now if you want it you have to go out and buy it yourself. I'm not aware of any fines for being caught on camera though. I don't think there are, but could be wrong.

im not sure of the website url, but i found a picture a couple of years ago of Chipper Jones locker. there was nearly 20 skoal cans stack in the back. dip is outlawed in every division but the majors, but its a slack rule..i dipped all throughout college and never had a word said to me by an umpire.

its in the CBA that dip is allowed so if MLB tried to legislate it at all, theyd have to go through the PA

No such thing as orange and lime skoal...

 

The green would probably be Apple Blend, or the new Citrus Blend. (I very recently gave the stuff up.)
