No Lester in ALCS game 1, are we going Beckett-Lester-Daisuke-4th-Beckett-Lester-Daisuke?

I have to assume that Beckett would get the Game 1 start, and under the circumstances that almost requires you to use the 4th starter since starting Josh on short rest is inadvisable due to the injury concern.

Opening with Daisuke? Is there a reason why you think Daisuke is good for it that or is it just because you're leery of Beckett after his Game 3 start?

I go with Dice in game 1 because he's already on extra rest, but let's not push it into rusty territory. Beckett in game 2 to give him an extra day of rest. Lester in game 3 (and the clincher, game 7, if necessary). Lester can, of course, be used before then on a throw day as needed.

EDIT: I was typing this while you posted, Kilo. My thoughts exactly.

10/10 - DiceK

10/11 - Beckett

10/13 - Lester

10/14 - 4th

10/16 - DiceK

10/18 - Lester

10/19 - Beckett

Would be my guess.

Revised thinking:

DiceK (6 days rest)

Beckett (5 days rest)

Lester (6 Days rest)

4th (Lots of rest)

DiceK (5 days rest)

Beckett (6 days rest)

Lester (5 days rest)

I'd go Wake over Byrd. Although it be nice if Wake could throw in Tampa, where he has had good outings.

It will be in Fenway. My initial feelings are don't make a decision until gameday and the weather is known. If the conditions are right, it's tough not to choose Wake.

BoSox21- If that is the case I would say:

Game 1 Push (Dice K is strong on the road)

Game 2 Push (Kazmir has not been very good recently and Beck is an unknown)

Game 3 Advantage Sox

Game 4 Advantage Rays

Game 5 Push

Game 6 Push

Game 7 Advantage Sox

That is just pitching-wise though. Personally, I think Tampa's lineup is more dangerous than ours. Papi needs to show he can be a threat if this lineup wants to be thought of as explosive.

Teams are well matched up with pitching advantage to Tampa and hitting advantage to Sox. Key here is can the Sox win close games again Tampa? We had no problems blowing them off - but have struggled mightly when the game has been close ( 1 run games). For a team that is based on pitching and defense - Tampa has shown tremendous tenacity through out the season to come back and win close games. Francona has not been great in making the small things that wins close games ( that's not his strength as a manager at all) - which concerns me quite a bit.

The Rays are just a very interesting team to say the least. They can pitch both starting and relieving. They dont hit for high averages and arent terribly patient, but can hit the longball as needed and run like the wind, especially in that outfield. They remind me a lot of what the angels used to be before they got Vlade and Tex.

Not really' date=' did you watch Wake in September?[/quote']

Other than one stinker in september Wake was actually not that bad. He was great in one start, decent in another and pitched 5 0 ER innings in his final start. Byrd was worse over his final 3 starts if you look at the numbers.

This guys video blog, shows him with a big yellow wig shouting about how the drays are the best team ever, typical ********. The tagline is "a look at the MLB from a non-biased perspective" Good stuff.
