The New York Daily News speculates that the Yankees may go after impending free agent Derek Lowe this offseason.

Lowe figures to have plenty of suitors after going 14-11 with a 3.24 ERA while tossing 200-plus innings for the fifth time in seven years. "Playing in New York would be no problem at all for him," Dodgers third base coach Larry Bowa said. "He could pitch in a big park, a small park. He could've had 22 wins this year, easy, if we had scored any runs for him in April, May or June. I think he likes the big stage."

I dont have a problem with Lowe. I just dont want him to be the lone addition to the pitching staff. Wang and Lowe would be a nice GB induction factory. This offseason is gonna be fun.

I know they are going to sign a couple of big name FA pitchers. Lowe would be my first choice for them. He has struggled before in this division / league, and as a GB pitcher, it will maximize the exposure of Jeter's defensive deficiency, which is good for Sox fans.

I dunno, I'm kind of hoping they go for Ben Sheets myself, because that'll really help their problem with keeping their rotation on the field.

He also had a 21-8 2.58ERA yr two yrs prior to that 5.47 season. I am not gonna even think he's still a sub 3ERA guy. Hell, I bet if he came to the ALE, he'd be in 4 range. But I like the idea of 200-220 injuries and the solid post season record.

I wouldn't mind having Lowe, I just don't want to bring him in as a big dollar, top of the rotation guy. If we can give him a reasonable deal and he could anchor the back third of the rotation then great. Otherwise, no thanks.

Wait are we talking about Lowe or Pavano?

Wang doesnt seem to mind
Before his injury, his ERA was not faring as well this season as in past seasons. As Jeter's range shrinks, Wang's ERA is certain to increase.

Wang was in the midst of his best BAA' date=' OBP and OPS against. His ERA was misleading. The only thing negative for Wang was his BB/9 rose a bit[/quote']Okay, I concede the point. It is better for a sinkerballer to have a SS with no range.

I am on your side with jeter's lack of range. But it obviously hasnt hindered Wang's career to this point. Wang was only the winningest pitcher since opening day 06 until he got hurt.

I am excited about the prospects of having a 200IP starter in the rotation along with our otherwise dependable 200IP Taiwanese starter. Schilling, for once in his life, was right. The team that gets the most out of their SP will win the division. If we have 2 200IP guys, its a start. Here's to hoping we have 5. But dont think I am at all expecting an acelike performance. I am going into this thinking he's a 3.

Wang has been in the majors for 3+ seasons. 2 of those full seasons saw him throw 30+ games and right around 200IP. He was on pace for that when his foot broke on a base. A fluke thing. I think we can count on Wang to hit 200IP again this yr.

Fair enough but there's still the possibility of an injury. I still think you guys lack an ace.

That we do, especially since right now, Wang is the only reliable starter under contract and I consider him a #2. I am of the belief that we need to top load the rotation or spread it out. Either sign CC and AJ to make one hell of a top 3 or sign Lowe, Pettitte, and Moose to make a top 4 that should see 30 starts apiece and near 200IP. We need to get quality innings out of our starters. If you take a look at the teams of our championship days, we only got Cy Young performance once (Roger in 2001). Our strength was having a rotation that gave lots of quality innings, a shutdown bullpen and a lineup that wasnt the best, but could score when absolutely needed. The pen should get to near shutdown level, but the offense has some significant ??s and the rotation is one man deep right now. I am very excited about this offseason mostly because we will get to see how we integrate the kids in with a good FA class.

Lowe will be a mistake. The money is better allocated towards Tex, AJ or CC. Then again, what do you expect from a retard of a GM?

Jacko...a shut down level bullpen? Dude, I want what you're smoking.

Jeter has a negative effect on runs. Saying that because of Wang he won't hurt Lowe doesn't make any sense. If Jeter was an average defender Wang would shave some runs of his ERA.

So Lowe is not an improvement over what we have now. Essentially Wang, Hughes, Joba, Aceves, and Rasner, which is our rotation at this moment?

Hearing Hughes in the rotation again makes me want to throw up.

I didn't say he'd be an improvement. I would be shocked if he had an ERA under 5.00 in the AL East.

I think he'd be a waste of money. I'd rather take a chance on Sheets. I'd rather spend money on Tex, AJ, CC...

Think about this. Lowe will likely be in the 4.2-4.7ERA range. Sheets, lets say for argument's sake would be around 3.7-4.0. Think about this. Lowe for 210IP at 4.50ERA or Sheets for 140IP at 3.70ERA and Rasner at 5.40ERA for 70IP.

Sorry Jacko. The guy had a 5.42 ERA in the AL East when he was in his early 30's. He goes out to LA, in the weakest hitting division in baseball AND in a pitchers park and has an ERA in the high 3's. Remember Kevin Brown? Randy Johnson?

Any pitcher from the NL, specifically the NL West, is a huge risk. Will he give you innings? Sure. Will they be quality innings? No.

Money better allocated elsewhere. I'm not surprised that this idiot GM is going after him, nor that you support the move.
