No' date=' what I said, is that in the past they put up with him because of the production [i']and[/i] the fact that if they had done something like that in the past and werent able to trade him the situtation could have gotten reallly, really ugly with years left on his contract. His contract was up this year, and they figured they didnt have as much to loose this time around.

they could have traded him in the past if they really wanted to. think about it, they gave up Manny, payed the rest of his salary for the season and threw in 2 prospects, its very clear they were fed up. by all accounts, the "Manny being Manny" crap has been worse this year than any other year

I'll take Manny's ******** in a heartbeat. You guys don't realize how great of a player you had.

Sign him for a $100 million deal then.

Absoulely true. There is no definitive evidence that we wouldnt be where we are now if we hadnt traded Manny. If we look at past instances, 2005 in particular, things would have blown over, Manny would have been raking in August and septemeber. Don't give me that how many september games did Manny play in 2007 ********. He had a strained oblique injury, 100% acknowledged by the teams medical staff. How long do these injuries take to heal? Oh I dont know 2-4 weeks most of the time. Fact of the matter is, when it mattered Manny played and played damn well. Everyone who turned against Manny this season is completely hypocritical. Where were the Manny hatters when he was hitting bombs last October? Case in point, obviously Manny was upset that he didnt get his contract extended. The FO jumped all over this opportunity to alienate Manny, and turn the media, fans, and even the club house against him.

Besides, didn't Simmons write an article on Nomar's departure and how it had to happen to improve the clubhouse, and the team?

Yeah.

Yeah.

Addition by subtraction. Excellent parallel.

If we could move Matsui, have Posada catch and get a guy like Tex to man 1B full time, then I'd sign Manny any day of the week to be my DH. I think a lot of his antics are made worse when he's on the defensive side of the game and if you eliminate that altogether, then so be it. I also think that moving home to a bigger city will help him a bit. That being said, I have no doubt the Mets will throw a pile of money at him and depending on how much he likes defense, I think Manny will have a tough decision on his hands. But having a lineup with ARod, Tex, Manny would be ridiculous.

the mets are going to sign him.

they'll give him a blank check and ask him to fill it out then they'll win the nl east with Johan and 4 f***bags pitching for them.

nice bop the old guy hit last night eh?

about 30 feet off the ground the entire distance and as it cleared center field you could see smoke coming off the ball...

everyone looking forward to seeing him in a couple of weeks?

The only thing standing between him and us is Jamie Moyer and Cole Hamels...

as long as we do our part i dont think anyones beating l.a. in the feeble n.l,especially a team that has Brett""she shouldve listened""Myers and Joe Blanton pitching meaningful innings.

Milwaukee?

too bad,i was rooting for them but Sheets packed it in and their bats simply disintergrated.

Sabby continues his playoff dominance raising his career era in the post season to just under 8.00.

it would be prudent for the yankees to give him 150,000,000.00 to suck in october.

i dont know what pinella was thinking by using Zambrano in game 2 rather than in game 1.

I know dempster had a good year at wrigley but dont you want your stud opening up the playoffs?

The entire cub team has a bone in its throat and I get amused watching their sad fans quietly sitting on their hands from the 2nd inning till the 9th when they got a half assed rally going.

Lowe, Billingsly, Kuroda, Maddux?

Not awe-inspiring. While I'd take that match-up, gotta win this series first. Sox are far from a lock to play in the WS.

Not awe-inspiring but very serviceable considering their offense

Manny's money quote during the field celebration pretty much confirmed Scott's role in forcing the trade. Per Manny, "Talk to Scott for getting me to LA".

I think that the media and Manny did enough damage to his rep that he needed to prove he was worth the trouble of giving a massive contract to. His career in LA thus far has shown that when he is happy, he can be ridiculous.

Manny has been unreal this post season. He is starting to show teams that he can be worth 20 mil a season.

he was worth $20 mil a year for the 7 1/2 years he spent here

Posted

according to WEEI, Boras is going to ask for something in the neighborhood of 5 years, $85 mil for Manny

im surprised he's actually looking for less than the salary he made here

Posted

Maybe theo will step up?

ya right

17M per??

i dont think so

this guy is going to the mets and will name his price to omar, the signer of all dominican icons.

the mets need a stud outfielder who can deliver, beltran is good but he aint manny, nobody on the f***ing planet can hit with manny but ive said that before...the national leagues inferior pitchers may get manny over 700 career if he gets a 5 year deal

Posted

Would he still be no-trade if we signed him now? I always forget how that works

If not, If I was John Henry and had endless loot I would pay whatever he wants, then eat the contract, trade the little bitch to the Royals for their best young players and watch Manny play on an awful team with no fans or resources against good pitching for the rest of his career.

No, the 10/5 rights are for when you have at least 10 years of MLB service, and 5 consecutive with your current team. The only way he'll get an NTC is if Boras brokers one into his new deal this offseason. I don't see any team signing up for that. He's certainly helped his stock the last two months, but after his antics to force the team to make a move, I've got to imagine there's reluctance to give him any kind of leverage for his new team.
