The Brewers have today fired manager Ned Yost with 12 games remaining in the season, one day before starting a crucial series in Chicago against the Cubbies while tied with the Phillies for the lead in the NL Wild card lrace.

No word on a replacement. I would imagine it's somebody already on the staff.

Shocking move. The Brewers are in it to win it this season.

Edit: Former Red Sox third base coach Dale Sveum is taking over on an interim basis. He's served as a coach on the Brewers staff since 2006 as first the bench coach and most recently the 3rd base coach.

On an unrelated, random note I didn't recall him being on the 1998 Yankees until just looking at his career numbers.

He played in 30 games and hit .155 in 58 ABs for the Yanks in '98.

Lets see if he can take the Brewers to October. I hope he's a better manager than he is a thid base coach, as I vividly recall several questionable moves on his part while with the Sox.

When asked how he would run the club, Sveum replied "we are going to run more. Inside the park homeruns, first to homes, shallow sacrifices, stealing home, you name it, we'll do it. I don't care if Prince has to take two bases on a tag up. We are gonna be a greasy fast Italian tank."

I have to give kudos to the move. Too many people now believe that the status quo is the best. A shakeup was definitely the right call.

They just got swept, they have one shot at this as CC and Sheets are sure to go, this is it for them.

Let's remember Bob Lemon for Billy Martin. Sometimes it pays off in spades.

Oh man haha I remember one Sox/Yanks game... he got 2 runners thrown out at home plate in the same inning, something crazy like 1 run on 6 hits

There is no comparison between the situation the 1978 Yankees were in and the situation the 2008 Brewers were in. They are completely different.

I don't know how much this had to do with anything -- but I think it's interesting how the Brewers were rolling up through C.C.'s non no-no, and then the Brewers made such a big stink about it, kind of bringing negatives into what should've been a very positive atmosphere, and since then the Brewers are, like, 3-11. Personally, I kind of like the move. It really can go either way in regards to the affect it has on the team, but really, I think they needed to do something to light a fire under them.

I recall something like that too. It was when some of us were back in the old Boston Herald forum where he earned the nicknames "Windmill" and "Green Light." Very, very agrressive approach, bordering on stupidity at times.

they are reporting that ned yost is a real cock and because they had a similar meltdown last year doug melvin wasnt going to go this route again so he brings in a laid back dale sveum.

i think milwaukee will have enuff in the tank to win the wildcard with sheets and sabby going for them.

the mets are starting their traditional september swoon and philly is going to get them in the east.

spending 10M on eric gagne was just stupid and ultimatley burned their bullpen.

he should be deported back to canada or spain or wherever fat men with goatees and 86mph fastballs are celebrated cause he has no business in mlb.

im rooting for the brewers to take the wild card.

I'll never understand why every shot at Eric Gagne has to come with a shot at Canada

I took that more as a shot at fat dudes with goatees, not as a shot at Canada.

Put another way, why anyone signs this worthless canuck is anyone's guess and fans of the team's he's played for recently would rather he go home to milk reindeer sperm from unsuspecting bucks roaming Canada's sub-arctic tundra.

where should we deport gagne to

norway? bangladesh?

hes from canada,if he were from new zealand i wouldve suggested new zealand.

im very fond of our relationship with our kindred brothers to the north and their culture of decency.

allow me to apologize if i offended you ,your nation and any one else aboard from canada.

that wasnt my intent.

if it were i wouldve been much more creative and perhaps the level of clarity wouldnt have been open for interpretation.

Your from Montreal

its just that everytime someone takes a shot Gagne, theres a word or two to remind everyone he's Canadian.

I dont see any reference to Timlin being from Texas everytime someone makes a criticism about him

its not that im offended, I just dont see what him being Canadian has to do with the fact that he absolutely sucks

bosox21.

you follow hockey i suspect.

those of us who grew up at the end of belliveaus career and the begining of lafleur and drydens career's can be quite specific if you want us to unload our true feelings.

I was mentioning where gagne was from.

I reiterate,if he were from Venezuala or Taipai I would recommend he be deported there.

And I have mentioned Texas in previous rants.

generally when discussing Roger Clemens and his council or the illustrious president of the USA who it seems is the democrats most popular campaigner as he is in all their campaign ads.

I understand that the French are a sensitive group and I apologized yesterday for any misinterpretation of my gagne post....

I suggest you continue to create your rich creamy sauces and allow this thread to die a natural death rather than continue baiting bostonians and other new englanders on this subject.
