Tomorrow could be a 14-0 blowout either way. How you can blame Francona for this is maddening.

Yeah it could be a 14-0 blow out or it could be a 3-2 lead in the 9th.

Why wasn't he pinch running before? Make it interesting by giving up an out? Now that, is a stupid f***ing managerial move. And oh goody, just look, he could have been on 3rd with less than 2 outs.

Yes, and tonight WAS a 4-3 lead.

What's your point?

My point is that you give Masterson the shot to close it out tonight. And give Paps the rest. Obviously he wasn't on tonight and htere was something wrong with him Couldn't find the strike zone and gave up a the homer to Dan Johnson.....

Am I the only one who think Ellbury should have PR immediately? Generally, I'm thinking of doing everything possible to get that tying run instead of waiting to use him maybe for the winning run.

Hey, I'm not against assigning some blame to Francona here. Don't get me wrong, Papelbon sucked and he sucked not because of the manager but because his pitch selection is one dimensional. That said, maybe he is just a bit fresher if he's not pitching on his 3rd consecutive day. And maybe he's not pitching on his 3rd consecutive day if the manager didn't need to "get him work" by only using him in save opportunities. Both have work to do, IMO.

Agreed.

I don't think this game will revive the Rays. IMO Beckett will shut them down tomorrow, and it will be close the rest of the way. Both teams have tough weekend series. If the Sox take 2 of 3 in Tampa, I think they will finish 1st, even though the rays still play the O's and the Tigers in the final week.

I agree, Ellsbury should have been there right away.

No I would have blamed Masterson. Wrong move imo.

Papelbon had a week off, then pitched two games and now a third. Why does he not get blamed for his suckiness in the third game, but Masterson would?

I didn't see the game, was following it on my phone. I am sure though that Francona was thinking that this game is important, it's our chance to take over 1st..........why bring Masterson in? He would want to go with his best guy in the situation. The sox just come back in the 8th to take the lead, we are ready to take over first, it's Paps job to nail that down. No matter what anyone says, if Francona had brought in Masterson and he had blown it....everyone here would be killing Tito! (and rightly so, we want our best in that situation)
