Scouting Report:

Blue Jays: Halladay toiled through a career-high 130 pitches in a loss at home to the Guardians on Saturday, but he is being given an extra day of rest in order to start the opener against the Red Sox. In his last outing, Halladay lasted 6 2/3 innings -- a short outing for the innings eater -- and surrendered four runs on 10 hits. Only one run was earned for Halladay, who has received just 3.8 runs of support from his offense this season. Halladay is 10-11 with a 4.66 ERA in 34 career games against Boston.

Red Sox: Making his first start with the Sox since arriving in Tuesday's trade, Byrd will look to keep his current streak of strong starts going in Boston against the Jays. Byrd is 4-0 since the All-Star break, with a 1.24 ERA in that span, making him a strong addition for Boston's stretch run. Given the current state of the team's rotation, either working through stints on the disabled list (Bartolo Colon and Tim Wakefield) or struggling to find a rhythm (Clay Buchholz), the durable veteran is exactly what the Sox were looking for at this point in the season to bolster their starting five.

Mojo today is all the amazing Verizon cell phones I could have, but I'm stuck with the s***** flickering chocolate.

Always hate having to face Halladay, but hopefully we can go out and put a few runs on the board and give Byrd some support. Most likely this one will be fairly low scoring. It'd be nice to see Byrd have a successful debut in Boston.

Byrd is a gamer. He turned away the Yankees and then us in game 4. Glad he's here unlike choker Buchholz.

Byrd is a gamer, but Bay is a bad acquisition? Wakefield sucks, but Byrd is the pickup of the year?

Do you even watch baseball?

Byrd beat the 2 best hitting teams in baseball in the postseason. He simply embarassed Wakefield in game 4. I never said Wakefield sucks he sucks vs the Yankees. I was wrong about Bay thus far. Byrd is a 5th starter that can win 10-12 games a year You'll like him.

Hopefully JE is truly back on his game' date=' because that's the "A" lineup if he is.[/quote']

agreed, thats a sick lineup if Ellsbury holds his own at the top. If he goes back into a slump, id better see Lowrie leading off

Not me, I like having a doubles machine like Lowrie hitting behind the guys who get on base. Sixth or 7th is working out fine in terms of contextual run scoring. Don't mess with it.

Paul showed Wakefield whats up. Double+ ownage to be exact 9.64 era to 3.60 era Wakefield choked again nothing new. Beckett Schilling and Dice K showed Wakefield how real pitchers get it done.

Then the Rockies series. Beckett game 1 Win. Schilling game 2 Win. Dice K game 3 win. Lester game 4 win. Losers not allowed to pitch in the world series :D

how are you gonna even start to compare a 37 year old veteran pitcher vs. a 24 year old rookie?

We are trying to make the playoffs. Need expierence in big games. Right now Buchholz is not producing.

I agree 100% that Byrd is the better option right now for the stretch run and the playoffs but to call Buchholz a choker when he's a 24 year old kid in his rookie season is a bit much

Why did you bother making that apology if you were just going to carry on with the retardiliciousness? Just in case you weren't clear, your drool inspired baseball analysis is what gets everyone to jump all over your posts.

Stats back up what I say sometimes. Youk of the Nation mentioned Wakefield for no apparent reason. But just pointing out the facts. Wakefield in a big game vs Paul Byrd was again OUTCLASSED. You guys will bash world series MVP's, Bash Beckett well it was 1 clown that did say "your stopper". But when I bash proven big game tankers I get killed makes sense.

Why couldn't it rain in the 3rd inning? Get Halliday out atleast.

Yeah maybe, but that doesn't mean you back it up with stats.
