The 5th place team beat the previous world record. The greatest finish I've ever seen in relay swimming.

Christ, that's insane. That many teams stepping up their game for that race is crazy.

And this was supposed to be the weakest link in terms of Phelps getting eight medals.

edit: Just checked it out on NBColympics.com... the French looked like they had that thing in the bag. That was an incredible race. What a comeback!

Phelps is amazing but unless you ride a vastly undersized tricycle the judges are walking up and down the pool...

I was just picturing my fat ass on a vastly undersized tricycle and it made me laugh.

Unreal...i was watching live last night and didn't think they had a chance in the last leg considering they were behind and the WR holder was anchoring the french team. The last 75 was just crazy.....not to mention all the subplots coming together.

Totally pictured something like

Did you lose weight?

My bud Jordan made me watch it when I was at his place, but it really is fun to watch. I can't believe some of the things those guys do in the water. Rooting for Phelps is fun too.

Why does everyone start to pretend to care about swimming when the Olympics start?

I like swimming. It's just that no one follows it here. I follow it, as a casual fan, but I get more into it during the Olympics.

If you need more reason to be a swimming fan....here you go. Amanda Beard, US team captain. She can be on my relay team any day, any time.

I wasnt very excited for the Olympics...but after that race I've been hooked. That was an amazing comeback. Loved how the announcer completely counted us out in the final turn when the French had a Torso+ lead on us.

Nothing like beeting some cocky frenchman to get your Olympic spirit pumping.

my brother was captain of the holy cross swim team and tells me this pool is the fastest in the world.

i guess the wider and deeper the pool the less splash and waves, plus these new bathing suits make them more bouyant(sp)??

i dont know but i can appreciate dominance and athleticism

my only bitch is when its thrust down my throat 24/7 as this has been pimped out to the max

i do know i only watch swimming once every 4yrs.

my favorite event is the 100 in track and i can watch these guys run all day long.

the jamaicans have 3M people on the island and they have the 2 fastest men in the world going head to head...i dont care much for the field events like discus or javelin but the sprints are fascinating...

id like to see the patriots grab up 1 of these guys just to see if we can turn a track guy into a legitimate nfl cornerback, sign him as a free agent, give him a month of nothing but man coverage in practice and maybe just maybe you can make one of these guys a football player.

track guys traditionally dont make good football players which is unfortunate.

Renaldo "Skeets" Nehemiah comes to mind. Although, he was a hurdler who went on to become a WR. I recall him being a bust. No hands. The idea of putting this kind of guy in a defensive role where the primary goal is to just knock it down and the gravy is if you can catch it might not be a bad one.

reynaldo was the fastest man in the world but was terrified of getting hit

ray clayborn of the pats was a burner and could hit a little bit too,his reputation as a tuff guy took a hit when will mcdonough beat the s*** out of him in the pats locker room after being pushed by clayborne

willie gault was effective but also had issues going over the middle

james jett and calvin muhammed in oakland couldnt catch the ball

and our own terry glenn,a 4.25 40 guy,a man who ray perkins said was the 2nd best football player hes ever seen would struggle if he felt a little twinge in his hamms or his calf.

million dollar talent 10cent brain

the track guys dont play unless theyre at 100%

in the nfl you are never 100% after week 1

People may not like the press he's getting...but come on, look at the results...they don't lie, that's total dominance.

Phelps won his 7th gold by 1 inche

That was so f***ing close...it almost looked like the guy next to him got to the buzzer or whatever first, but didnt press hard enough.

It was so close. Olympics are great. Sure beats the hell out of watching the Yankees this year

The only issue is when the Michael Phelps alert says the results on ESPN's bottomline before they even show the race here in the US. In this instance, ESPN is like the guy who blurted out the score of the game you tivo'd.

Usain Bolt just won the 100M dash at 9.69 ' date=' and he let up at the end too[/quote']

Yeah it was just the qualifier I noticed that too. Like the last 10 M or so he was "jogging"
