Rookie mistakes? Come on, do you even know the first thing about Bailey? He's not some hot shot kid who is still learning the game. He's 29. Been playing professional ball for 11 years now. In another system he's already been given a shot, but he wasn't here because they had to let prospects with a better pedigree like Moss and Murphy get a shot first.

Here's why I favor him over Millar. Millar's player performance arc fits the model. His power prime was 29-32, and he's a few years beyond that. Murphy's MiLB performance appears to be following the same pattern. Hell, he sounds like another version of Kevin Millar. Good eye, good pop, no range, decent glove, plays LF/1B/DH, except he's just now entering those prime years.

The MLE of the excellent season he's having in Pawtucket is .261/.349/.473. If you take Millar's 1st two MLB seasons and combine them for a 500+ AB sample, you'd get about a .270/.360/.470 line.

I say take the younger version of Millar over the older .240/.330/.430 version.

Lets make a bet. If the Sox trade for Millar' date=' you can choose what my avatar will be[/quote']I am not saying that they will trade for him. I am saying that I think they should. That's my opinion. In my last post I was explaining how the waiver process works. Trades are made after the players clear waivers. Just because no team claims a player doesn't mean there is no interest in the player.

He will not know the pitchers at the ML level like Millar does. I don't want him up in a key situation where he is unfamiliar with a pitcher's stuff or tendencies. I don't need to see him chasing a third strike in the dirt when Millar will know before the ball leaves the pitcher's hand that the pitch will be a slider in the dirt. That's what I mean by a rookie mistake. I am not talking about throwing to the wrong base. I am talking about situations where experience counts.

How many chances is Bailey going to get anyway down this strech drive? I say its minimal

And as for rookies in situations where experience counts... Ellsbury batted .360 in the playoffs when he took over for Crisp

I guess all those guys he's faced in the EL and IL over the last 5 years went on to play ball in the NPL and all the AL teams imported their pitchers from the Vega system. Look the amount of turnover in pitching lately, at how many fresh faces make up the pitching staffs of Baltimore, Tampa, Cleveland, etc. He's seen more of these pitchers than you realize.

No Millar. I really liked him there for awhile, but he ultimately got too comfortable and demanding in Boston. No need to add ego to this squad.

Give him his shot next season. If I thought he would come up and substantially outperform Millar, I'd agree with you, but I don't see that happening. With everything else being equal or even if he is marginally better, I'd rather go with the experience down the stretch.

Oh, we know, this has been made abundantly clear. Cora over Pedroia. Crisp over Ellsbury. Helton over Youkilis. The list is long. I think, at the worst, replacing Bailey with Millar is a wash, but then you have to give something up to get Millar. Even if the something is minor, you lose if you don't gain something in return. I see no gain here.
