Most great players end their careers when they can no longer perform. Look up the final years of any random HOFers and you'll find that to be true. Mays, Mantle, Berra, Ford, Snider, Spahn, Brooks and Frank Robinson. None of them could perform in their last couple of years. Their legacies were not annihilated.
