ManRam with 3 for 4 tonight, but the Dodgers lose to the terrible Nationals 2-1. Dodgers are 2 games under .500. Torre doesn't look like such a genius anymore. He has young studs, Manny, Kent and lots of arms and a sub .500 record.

Well they are 25th in MLB in runs.

With all the talent on that team, they should be scoring runs. They had 13 hits and 2 walks on Monday and got shutout.

Rays win' date=' up by 4.5 again.[/quote']The Sox could still catch them if they get back to full strength, but if Drew and Beckett sit down every time they get an itch, they do not have a chance and they will have to struggle to get the wild card.

Jesus Christ, give it a rest. We get it, tough guy, you'd go out there and risk severe injury because that's what your heros did at a time when the medical knowledge on sports related injuries was akin to blood letting. Can we move on now?

EDIT: My frustration is only partially due to your opinion. My tone is a little more pointed here because that opinion is starting to spill into multiple threads.

I think what has become the conventional wisdom about limiting pitch counts and innings may start to turn. Nolan Ryan is in the process of changing that culture with the Texas team.

If he messes up his knee, he'll get cut and be out of a job. Baseball contracts are guaranteed. He's being paid to pitch. I'll state it again. He has no pain and he has no drop in velocity. He's been given an MRI and been checked out by the red Sox medical team. He should be pitching.

I wasn't alive to follow the news at the time, but if forced to guess I'd say you see more injuries because the advancements in sports medicine / usage caution has resulted in more peole making it to the big leagues that would have previously thrown their arms out in the minors at a time when you were less likely to hear about it. Furthermore, there is another sport that likes big arms that has supplanted baseball as the most popular sport in America. Whatever the reason, I can't believe you appear to be taking the position that modern medicine and caution are the actual cause of these injuries. That's preposterous.

They have been effective in refining certain procedures to get someone back on the field. I blame the pampering of the pitchers, from high school on through college and the minors, as having the effect of not properly conditioning them to handle a heavy load of innings. This theory has been around for some time, and I'm not the one who pioneered it. IMO more and more teams will begin to change their approach to the conditioning of pitchers as the current approach has not been able to keep guys on the field.

This I don't take issue with. I agree, I think starters can go more than 100 pitches regularly. Lester was throwing 95 on pitches 110-119 yesterday. Once they successfully show they can handle the load and get beyond the 21-24 injury nexus for young pitchers, basically turn them loose.

How this relates to your point about Beckett being a pussy has me scratching my head. Beckett was showing the symptoms common to pitchers' requiring TJ surgery. Having the best orthoped in the business evaluate him seems like a rational thing to do before throwing him back out there.

The two issues are not necessarily connected except by that IMO opinion the pampering philosophy has led to the creation of a bunch of hypochondriacal divas. Maybe he is hurt, but to me it sounds like he is the one with the concerns, not the team. It's just my opinion. I am hoping that I am not proved wrong and that he doesn't need surgery, because we need the SOB on the mound.

It's about time Sonnenstine got hit around like the chucker he really is.

Magrane's blatant cheerleading is really subdued with someone other than Staats in the both with him. Let's see if he can maintain it all game. My feeling is he's really biting his tongue, but I'll allow that he's really not that bad and Staats just brings it out of him.
