We're going to need a long outing from Wakefield tonight with the back end of the bullpen gassed. Hopefully the offense can come out firing tonight against Robertson to help us avoid any situation where Timlin would need to pitch in a tight game.

Why do you have Rickroll in your signature. :(

Never gonna make you cry

Never gonna say goodbye

Never gonna tell a lie and hurt you

I googled that and found a song from the 80's. what am I missing?

Its an internet bandwagon that you're lucky to have missed, believe me. Basically people were sending the music video for a Rick Astley song to each other. It has like 12 million views on youtube.

Back to the game haha:

DETROIT -- With Manny Ramirez in a minor slump and David Ortiz dealing with knee problems, first baseman Kevin Youkilis has picked up the slack for the Red Sox.

Youkilis is hitting .305 with four home runs and 22 RBIs, and he's been a hitting machine of late. In Boston's last three games, he is batting .556 (5-for-9) with two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs.

"No matter where you put him [in the order], he gives you good at-bats," teammate Mike Lowell said. "He produces, and he's a valuable guy to our team."

Youkilis took center stage in Boston's win over Tampa Bay on Sunday, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, a home run and four RBIs. He went just 1-for-4 in Monday's 6-3 win over the Tigers, but it was a big hit. He cranked a two-run home run in the fourth inning that gave Boston the eventual winning run.

"When he's grinding out at-bats, seeing pitches, whatever happens we'll take it -- the on-base percentage, driving the ball to right field, sometimes fighting it off," Red Sox manager Terry Franconca said. "He's a professional hitter and, staying away from injuries, he's going to become a better hitter. He already has."

Tuesday, the second game of a four-game set with Detroit, could produce more of the same from Youkilis.

He owns a .333 batting average against Detroit's starter, left-hander Nate Robertson. That includes a double, two home runs, three walks and four RBIs -- the most Youkilis has against any Detroit starter.

The Red Sox counter with starter Tim Wakefield, who looks to give Boston its fourth win in five tries against Detroit this season.

Pitching matchup

BOS: RHP Tim Wakefield (2-1, 4.03 ERA)

The veteran knuckleballer took a tough-luck loss in his last start, giving up three runs over seven innings against the Blue Jays. However, it marked only the third time in Wakefield's career he started a game without getting at least one strikeout. Wakefield is 13-10 lifetime against the Tigers with a 4.50 ERA. At Comerica Park, he is 2-3 with a 5.08 ERA.

DET: LHP Nate Robertson (1-3, 6.82 ERA)

Robertson rebounded from a winless April with a victory Thursday night at Yankee Stadium, something that seemed unlikely after a Bobby Abreu home run put him down three runs three batters into his outing. Robertson recovered to retire nine straight batters and give his offense a chance to get him a lead. If he can command his fastball-slider combination, he'll have a chance to build on that.

Tidbits

Ortiz has at least one RBI in 11 of his last 14 games. On Monday he extended his hitting streak to five games. ... Mike Lowell's home run on Monday was his first homer and RBI since Sept. 29 of last season. ... The Red Sox have scored 32 runs in their last four games, hitting .347 as a team in that span.

I bet Ortiz's knee is still really bothering him. He wasn't exactly busting it down to first and it seemed like he didn't want to put too much stress on it
